  just wondering how pioneering etc...get around work for the dole (australia) as most wfd programs are based in charities and / or community work......does anyone know how they get around this???

  Do we get used to tragedies?

  in 1986, when space shuttle challenger exploded in mid air, it seemed to be a greater disaster than what happened today with columbia.

  both are just as bad, but it seems that we get used to bad news.

  maybe since 9/11, we got used to tragedies on a greater scale.

  I would hate to think that we (humanity) would ever get used to tragedies - I think the use of TV comps etc just brings it closer into our homes!

  JWs` came to my dorr yesterday (Feb1st) must be the first time in about 15yrs...last time I told them I was df`ed..this time just not interested......I just couldn`t be bothered with it all! They seem to be on a door to door rampage this week..seen flocks of em out and about......made me remeber the dowdy clothes i used to wear ...lolol

  This mentality really annoys me.......I have some points to discuss

  1. When I was a witness the same attitude prevailed and when I lost my first job in a shoe shop at aged 16 my parents first reaction was `fantastic, now you can pioneer`....hello....what a bright future that held out for me ..but of course that didn`t matter coz I was expected to find a brother to marry who would be the `provider`....
  2. I now work fulltime with homeless families who would give ANYTHING to get a job to break their cycle of poverty. Most people I work with have`nt had a great background in education and therefore would take any type of manual / labourer work. These people struggle daily to survive and here is someone rejoicing over the LOSS of their job. AMAZING!!
  3. Self esteem is higher in people that work - thats a fact......not to mention the benefits of social interaction

  I find it amazing that the dubs still continue to have this attitude towards gaining further education and / or meaningful employment.......

  would anyone like to comment on the following observations?.

  the very large majority of the jws that i come into contact with on a regular basis are not wealthy and many have very low incomes, yet they still make substantial contributions to the wbts every month.

  because they are firmly lead to believe that it is an organisation that is struggling for its financial survival.. following a recent visit from the c.o.

  I would like to see some sort of research done into the `real` value and assets they hold.....although my parents would never walk for any other reason - money would sway them I believe...alas I have no ideas I`m afraod I`ve been out too long to know the first way to handle such a feat!...
