gotta go to work soon.....but i've been mulling this one over and can't come to any logical conclusion(s) on my own, so i'm asking for yall's thoughts on the subject..... .
to begin with, from years ago, i've seen several persons talk about the probability of an illness or a possible catastrophe befalling them....only to seemingly "talk themselves into" being actually ill or the catastrophe actually befalling them.....i've also observed people, who are avid church-goers and bible readers, have "spiritual" experiences which actually validate their beliefs.....and i've read psychological info which proposes in so many words that things can occur in a person's life according to what they believe will occur.....that positive thoughts and actions attract positive outcomes and, likewise, negative thoughts and actions attract negative outcomes.....i have also had the experience from being in the borg and studying so much bible knowledge that it became too real and that what bible writers had written began to take affect in my own life for a while......but i also now see the obvious faults in what was written in the bible.....also, people who believe in buddha, voodoo or any other faith/practice seem to see the results come true for them as they are taught to believe the results will come...... .
so.....i'm wondering.....1. could it be probable that a person could contrive and believe and act on just about anything and see results according to what they have contrived to be true, acted on and believe?

in the past, when i've been talking about being a witness they haven't really understood just how much of an impact it has on your life unless they've been one too.
whats the best way to explain it to someone who has never been a witness and had little contact with them?
i'm more thinking of how much control there is over your life, and the reason why a lot of witnesses feel down and suffer from depression, ect.. gadget
Thanks, Auntie Jane,
This is one of my biggest issues... that my sister is still a JW and trying to get pregnant. It will kill me to know the fear they are being raised in and not be able to stop it. And the worst part of it is that the parents support and bolster the fear.
The best thing you can offer them is a soft place to fall if they need it once they are old enough to get out. That's my goal... be the most awesome aunt in the world so that if they ever need to come to me they can.

Do you remember when you were a kid and you were terrified of monsters in the dark? You know, the age when you were old enough to know better... but they still terrified you? And you would lay in bed afraid that they might be coming for you, afraid of what they would do to you. That's what the fear is like, the fear that God will kill you for not following the rules. You can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it makes no sense and still it terrifies you. The only difference is my dad told me that my demons were real, he didn't check under the bed and make them go away.

the "what if" thing comes to mind... no matter how much i strongly believe that they are not, what if armageddon happened tomorrow and they were correct?
would you have any sorrow for being wrong???.
i, personally would not.
Then I would sooner die standing up for the things I believe and the God I believe in rather than serving a god who would kill millions of good people who live the best life they can every day along with innocent babies who committed no sin other than being born on the wrong side of Armagedon to non jw parents.

Perhaps I'm missing something (I'm blonde, I often do ;) ) but it seems to me that all Wes did was discuss his beliefs. The employee was not discriminated against that I can see. He doesn't say he was denied a promotion or given a smaller raise due to differing religious beliefs. Are we no longer allowed to state our religious viewpoints at work?
Confused,
Jackie
Rush,
I'm so sorry. It's hell when you need to deal with something head on and the other party isn't willing to, especially when that other party is your family. Know that if you ever need to talk my email is in my profile. I'm sure your mom will get over it in time and getting it off your chest was probably good for you. Perhaps you can move on to an even better relationship with her now that you've said the things you needed to say. I hope things go well.

hmmm... apparently my email is not in my profile. [email protected] if you need to chat.
