I myself was not adopted, however my husband's mother was. She passed away seven years ago and both of her adoptive parents are gone now as well. I have always been interested in finding more about her birth family for a couple of reasons. We plan on having children, and for medical reasons I would like to know her families medical history. The second reason is that I am 90% sure that her birth family live or lived right here in the same town. I am curious to know if my husband has relatives(aunts, uncles, cousins) living right here that he might get to know. It's a bit of a sticky situation because I think he feels as though to find this extended family may somehow be deserting his grandparents memory somehow. We have talked about it somewhat though and he said he wouldn't mind if I wanted to do some investigation. The problem is, I don't really know where to start. Does anyone have some advice or insight on how might be the best way to start a search like this? Thanks in advance for any input.

I came up with a really neat geneology page when I typed in my married name(for my husbands father's side).
Nada when I typed in my maiden name. Guess I haven't had a chance to leave my mark yet. But it did renew my interest in finding my husband's mothers birth family. I'm gonna start a new thread asking for help with that one.

comments and confusions on the law by the WT
by meadow77 ini am goint to post the link to two articles i have been reading on the watchtower sight.
the first is about tithing and the second is about accepting blood.
at first i was irritated by their condemnation of tithing in other churches, when we all know the truth of their money management and collection.

That actually is one of the things I thought about reading the article on tithing as well. I think sometimes they try a little too hard to distinguish themselves from other religions. When are they gonna wake up and realize that they are leading the pack of snares and rackets.

At first I was irritated by their condemnation of tithing in other churches, when we all know the truth of their money management and collection. Then I realized something else, how fast and loose they played with the law, if it commanded something that they do not hold as a belief. However, if it involves a doctrine that is central to their core beliefs than the law is concrete. For those of you who would like to read the articles and tell me what you think, here are the links.

I just heard as well. It is extremly sad and shocking. Makes you wonder if there is something to that old wives tale about these tragedies happening in threes.

Why Are So Many JWs Ex-Catholic?
by SpannerintheWorks inis it just my imagination, or are a disproportionate of jws ex-catholic?.
were you a catholic before a jw?.
why did you feel that the jw religion was "better" than the "catholic" one?.

I have to agree with the idea that the catholic religion is based so heavily in traditions that regular bible study is not often a big priority. I can say this with confidence as my family is catholic and I married a former catholic. This is not to suggest that catholics are ignorant, but it is true that much of what their religion teeters on is traditions to save them, not accurate bible knowledge. I would also like to point out that I know not ALL catholics are "poor bible students." It's just to be in that religion is to think more about confession and what not. So when someone comes to your door saying all the right things and "appears" to be very knowledgable about scripture, two things happen. First, you don't have the biblical knowledge to refute what they say, and so second you tend to believe them.

Blasphemy
by ClassAvenger ini was asked how come the bible says that god forgives blasphemy to the father and the son, but not the holy spirit.
if they all are god, what makes the person of the holy spirit more important regarding blasphemy than the father or the son.
sorry, i don't know much about the bible, but i'm trying to learn here, alright?
