I just wished my Dad happy father's day for the first time since 1980, 23 years! I'm so glad he's still around so I could do that, I might have missed the opportunity because he's had medical problems lately. It felt strange, but also it felt like a good thing. I've been breathing free air for around a year & a half now. It's actually amazing when I think about it that for 23 straight years I denied myself the priviledge of such a normal thing to do. What a strong hold the organization had on me all those years.

Is this plausible?
by JNS2 ini assume a high percentage of those that post & read posts here are either still witnesses, disfellowshipped, disassociated, or just drifted away from the organization.
i'm sure many of us remember well the beliefs of the wts about the scenario leading up to armageddon & i wonder how many of us still think about that kind of thing.
i recall the idea that there would be a declaration of peace & security & every time i hear a political leader or un leader use terms like that my ears perk up.

As usual, the comments here are right on, wise, & helpful. Even recognizing the hold that all the years of programming have had on me, it is still a struggle get over it. What a valuable help this forum is! Thank you all.

Thanks for the comments. Some of the posts are that the defeat of Iraq would not mean that peace & security would really be acheived. That's not the point, it just seems that it would be a good time to make the FALSE declaration. I know there have been other good times to make a false declaration, but considering the timing & location, this would seem to be an optimal moment. I'm not questioning my reasons for leaving the organization, but the things happening in the world now seem naggingly familiar. Don't they?

I assume a high percentage of those that post & read posts here are either still Witnesses, disfellowshipped, disassociated, or just drifted away from the organization. I am the latter. Those expressions have really been in the news a lot lately & escalating exponentially it seems. I also recall the idea that when the "declaration" is made, it would be a hollow one, or a false one. Peace & security would be declared, but in actuality it would not be the case.
My point in posting this is my thought that if this war goes on & the coalition forces manage to subdue Iraq & get rid of Saddam, it would be a great time to declare that peace & security would have been secured. Wouldn't this very well fit the way the WTS has been saying it would take place?
I'm not saying I think this is what I believe any more, but it does cause me to wonder. I've seen in posts before the idea "what if they're right?". How is anybody feeling about this now? If this has been covered lately, I apologize. I've not been able to keep up with ther board lately, but I really want to know if anybody's confidence in leaving has been affected. I spoke with a friend recently who is still "in" all the way. He told me that in the latest figures, there was a percentage of growth in the US numbers. Is this a reaction to 9/11 & other world events? Just wondering.....jns2

WARNING.....demon attached to object?
by JNS2 inafter all the years of having it drilled in my head that demons could attach themselves to an object i now wonder: is that just more jw bull****?
am i still reacting to the years of brainwashing or is there really a concern about what one brings into their home?.
anybody have any thoughts on this????

Hey Blueblades, somebody posted some links to some of the things you are talking about. (I think) It showed the faces in the clothing, the back of a chair, the monster in the folds of clothing, etc etc. Maybe the quality of the photos wasn't all that great, but I really couldn't see it. It seemed like more of a case of overactive imagination. It seemed more like seeing a turtle or elephant or whatever in the clouds. Do you really think someone on the inside is managing to get these things slipped in without them being noticed by the proofreaders? That just doesn't seem too likely to me. On the other hand, who knows???

What about praying NOW???
by JNS2 innow that my decision to leave the organization is made, there is definitely a sense of relief.
i know i'm leaving a controlling organization, not my faith in god.
so i'm still praying at various times during the day, but it has become a very odd thing now.

Intro, maybe the simplest things are the most profound? Kind of like not seeing the forest for the trees. This simple idea really should work well for me because I'm simpleminded!!!

Intro, when I was "found" at my door by the JWs, I told them I was a Zen Buddhist Christian. Your posts remind me of Eastern thinking. Are you in any kind of affiliation or are you just living according to your inner self & moved by your own thinking? JNS2

Blueblades, I know the teaching of demons being attached to objects is a teaching of the society in it's literature. I actually threw away gifts & other things while a practicing JW because of this, mostly from non-JW family. (actually my xwife was much more "sensitive" to this than me, but I admit I was a little concerned about something that had belonged to someone not "in the truth".) Thinking about it now makes me feel a little dumb. (lol)
What brought this up was buying a used couch from a person here in my town a few days ago. She is into a lot of "unusual" things & this old thought came up into my mind. I just wondered how people on this forum felt about it. There are some very smart people that post here & I value what they may have to say!
