folks.
we did the positive spin about being a witness.
now let's see if we can come up with anything negative about being a jehovah's witness....now, put your thinking caps on!

as many of you would know, the 2300 days of daniel in daniel chapter 8 verse 14 have been a significant prophetic period in watchtower history.
pastor russell held certain interpretations of them.
later abandoned.
Let me see if I have it right now .........
The GENTILE times the root of DAVID divided by the 12 TRIBES raised to the SECOND WORLD POWER equals something ... some year I think .... but then I remember the tricky part that was discussed at an assembly is where we then take that number and either multiply or divide that by the time, times and half a time? (I always forget which to do) and then I have in my notes that that number is symbolic of something else .....
Sorry ... after 40 years of doing this I am STILL comfused.

having grown up a loyal little dub, i vaguely remember the time growing up (maybe 60's or 70's) that the catholics changed the rules that allowed them to eat meat on friday (i take this issue personally because in my school they always fed us the most horrible tasting tuna every friday).
i remember how my parents laughed at them and said "how are all those people that they believe are in hell going to feel now?".
my question is, for those who were catholics at that time, how was that handled for public relations purposes?

Was it a "get out of jail free" card type of thing, or what? I know we (JW's) have not been kind to those DF'd for things like organ transplants that "later" were "found" (I guess they were lost) to be issues of conscience.

Not being able to have a real discussion about issues and beliefs or else you are
marked as a person not obedient to the teachings of the FDS. I like to think of this
as "Magnetic Sign" beliefs ....... read what is on the sign and believe it ..... if we change
the sign, that's what we believe today (ooooooppppssss ....sorry .... I mean New Light).

the australian daily telegragh on 17th jan has an artical on serena williams and goes on to say.
top speed serena williams clains she has no memory of swearing during her tight australian open first round match despite being fined $2500 for the offence yesterday.
williams was fined for an 'audible obscenity ' while she came back from a set downto overcome emilie loit, of france , on tuesday.
I'm a bit confused about this Williams thing after what I've read in the news.
First, I understand that one of the referees reported to another that there was unChristian
language used. The incident was then reported to the authorities.
I see nowhere that two referees heard her say the "word." So it is mere speculation.
Obviously, Serena never said it since only one referee actually heard it. So I guess, at this point,
the person that reported it to the press will be fired.

Hello to all.
I have been here reading and reading for the past 6 months. I am finally taking the plundge and joining in. A little about me:
3rd generation dub. Former MS and Pioneer for a year and was in process of being appointed an Elder (gave several public talks) when I started the fade. Still technically "in" but down to about one meeting or less a month. I just got tired of the micro-management of every aspect of a person's life. I mean, a conscience ??? I hate to see people criticized when they use their consciences and another person makes an issue because it's not what he or she would have done in the same situation. And blaming the R&F for everything just ticks me off. And the UN ... and ... and ....
The majority of my family is in the New York and the New England area but I moved to the Southeast a couple of years ago (Sorry about not going into more details at this time but you understand I don't want to get the family involved yet). I guess I'm at less than one meeting a month and blame it on my job when asked (I do travel alot for work).
I was divorced from my ex (she DA'd about 5 years ago, just wanted out of the borg, and told the elders that she cheated so that I could remarry without a problem).
I am a very active person (a tad over 40) and love to dance, travel, etc. The sisters I knew just seemed soooo very boring and not at all interesting, at least in the things I like to do. And yes, when I do go out at night, it makes me happy to see the person I'm with look GOOD, not like my grandmother dresses.
I will explain more on another post but I met a lovely Columbian woman (Catholic) and yes, a little over a year ago, got married (all very quietly). We really love each other. We have been respectful of each others beliefs but have basically blended our lives together. So it's presents at Christmas but without the tree and decorations everywhere, etc.
I must say, that my perspective has changed so much. Her family has been wonderful to me. They even came from Columbia (along with 10 of her friends) for our wedding. I really feel their love. I wish I could share my feelings with my family the way she can with hers but we know that doesn't work. The time for me to tell my family will come later. They know however that I miss a lot of meetings and not really active in the service.
I must say that the last year has been wonderful! I am truly in love. By the way, now, when we talk about 69, the first thing that comes to mind is NOT the year of the International District Assembly in New York City! (Sorry, I couldn't resist that one).
Anyway, back to work. Thank you again everyone.
His first post,
Bowels
