I dated several worldly girls (quietly) and then ended up getting married to one a year and a half ago. The JW girls I knew were often very sweet and submissive but I felt I wasn't getting anything back emotionally. I felt they all too often expected me to "do" the thinking on things instead of being a real partner. I was looking for someone that I felt was on my level and could openly discuss issues and provide real feedback instead of a "whatever you think, dear" type of person. She is well educated and extremely intelligent and I can truly respect her for that.

More JW guys date 'Worldly' girls than....
by ashitaka in...than jw girls do 'worldly' guys?
you would think so from the posts here.. how many posts have we seen here about jw guys who are dating non-jw chicks undercover (no pun)?
or is it just that jw girls are likely to be living at home and less likely to have a chance to date a worldly guy, because of the tight grip that jw parents have over their girls?.

Slightly off topic but I once remember a couple in my old congregation that had their kitten "fixed" and named it Ebed-Melech or "Ebbie" for short.

I think more do it in the borg than most people realize. When married to my ex, we certainly did it and knew others that did it also. I think now it's more of a "don't ask - don't tell" policy. Personally, I think it's great and my wife loves it.

do beer commercials cross the line?
by DanTheMan ini was hoping to enjoy the championship game between the eagles and the bucs.. but no more than 5 or 10 minutes into the game, a budweiser ad comes on that uses a very obvious double entendre (a conversation between a man and woman that revolves around the very large sweatshirt she is wearing.
she makes comments like, "small ones are ok, but big ones just feel better.
" the commercial closes with her remarking about his "small hands".).

Lighten Up!!! Teens and pre-teens are exposed to far more on the school bus than they will ever see on commercials. I find both commercials (Miller and Bud) both quite funny. Let's face it, you have to have funny commercials to sell the crappy-tasting beer that they make. When they start brewing beer like Fosters then I'll switch.

Meat on Friday
by bowels inhaving grown up a loyal little dub, i vaguely remember the time growing up (maybe 60's or 70's) that the catholics changed the rules that allowed them to eat meat on friday (i take this issue personally because in my school they always fed us the most horrible tasting tuna every friday).
i remember how my parents laughed at them and said "how are all those people that they believe are in hell going to feel now?".
my question is, for those who were catholics at that time, how was that handled for public relations purposes?

Thanks to all for the information. I tend to agree that many Catholics (and people in most other religions for that matter) simply call themselves whatever they were brought up as and never really practice it. I guess my wife falls into that category, she was raised Catholic but only goes to mass about twice a year.
And for MYOHNSEPH regarding my name ... well ... I guess I should change it. I'll think about it. It may give the wrong impression. I mentioned before that "bowels" was my actually my third choice but Butterfly and LoveAngel were already taken.

we did the positive spin about being a witness.

The 2300 Daze of Daniel
by refiners fire inas many of you would know, the 2300 days of daniel in daniel chapter 8 verse 14 have been a significant prophetic period in watchtower history.
pastor russell held certain interpretations of them.
later abandoned.

Let me see if I have it right now .........
The GENTILE times the root of DAVID divided by the 12 TRIBES raised to the SECOND WORLD POWER equals something ... some year I think .... but then I remember the tricky part that was discussed at an assembly is where we then take that number and either multiply or divide that by the time, times and half a time? (I always forget which to do) and then I have in my notes that that number is symbolic of something else .....
Sorry ... after 40 years of doing this I am STILL comfused.

Was it a "get out of jail free" card type of thing, or what? I know we (JW's) have not been kind to those DF'd for things like organ transplants that "later" were "found" (I guess they were lost) to be issues of conscience.
