  Respect and recent drama on the forum

  purps has an excellent topic on respect..respect-o-meter .. go read it if you haven't already.....though i alluded to this there i did not want to hijack her thread..... because of recent events on this board, i have lost the respect of certain posters.

  this loss of respect has taken different forms.

  in some cases, posters have come right out privately and said "i have lost respect for you because of what you did.

  The fun never stops on message forums!

  When you're part of an online community, you'll see things, situations, and people come and go. I moderate another message board and see my share of the same type of stuff that goes on here, and I've even outed a few of the liars and trolls myself.

  People come and go. People give out too much information, and some give out too much false information. People get involved in heated debates and drama. Wow, the online communities are pretty identical to real-life communities!

  i just read a piece on cnn about the commodore 64. apparently it is what hundreds of thousands of people (the article says "millions" -- really?

  millions?

  ) look back on as their very first real computer.

  I had the rubber keyboard that went over the ZX81's membrane piece of crap. Didn't really help at all.

  I didn't like the ZX81 / Timex Sinclair for two reasons:

  1) It was black & white

  2) It had only 1k of RAM, and without the 16k RAM pack, you could only write a program this simple:

  10 PRINT "HI ";

  20 GOTO 10

  Any more and you'd run out of memory :)

  Congregation Secretaries and Flashdrives

  i recently did a computer favor for a jw gentleman who is the "secretary" in his congregation.. he appears to be running a small db that stores congregation records on a flashdrive.

  apparently for security reasons this information is never to go on a pc hard drive.

  (ostensibly because most pc's are eventually donated, handed down to children or become garage sale fodder.).

  Unfortunately, I didn't have the floppy drive nor the interface (that thing under the monitor). I only had a cassette deck hooked up to it. I had games that I painstakingly punched into the computer from a book. My TRS-80 had a really bad space bar, and I eventually ended up using shift-0 which did the same thing.

  I eventually moved up to a Vic-20 where I pretty much learned how to program in BASIC. After that, I moved up to a C-64 where I learned much more programming, and even a bit of hacking. I had a friend who also had a C-64, and his constant hacking of my programs taught me about creating better security for them. I eventually made a trojan horse and hid it in one of his programs (really, you couldn't see it if you typed "LIST"). It left his floppy disk in a horrible mess that only I could clean up. Of course I didn't :)

  Work Christmas Party!!!!!!!! What are you doing????????

  this year we have a themed christmas party.. gangster/mafia...... what to wear.. was going to wear a flapper dress but hey who has a body to wear one of those...lol...... so its going to be a gangster moll outfit.

  hubby he is wearing a black suit with a black shirt and white tie.. will post pics of the night (16/12).. i have rumours that they give out 'trophies' for things that have happened throughout the year or if you have a 'quality' ( i know one girl who is very chatty and i think they are going to give her a set of those chatty teeth that you wind up).

  so what are you doing for your works christmas party???????.

  We already had our work Christmas party. It sucked balls, just like most of the other ones. We were supposed to be there at 6:30. Then, they took our orders between 8:30 and 9:00 (!!!!). We got two tiny starters, a tiny main course, and a tiny piece of dessert on a plate that looked like someone wiped their arse with. We finished eating at 11:00 (!!!!)
  
  What else happened? Nothing. It was loud as hell with everyone talking in a tiny little room, and it was freakin' boring. It was also too late for me to bugger off to a Karaoke bar and have fun.
  
  I won't be attending next year. I've attended 8 of the 10 Christmas parties that my work has held, and they keep getting worse. I've had enough.

  I tried finding the original "sent" thread, but IMO the new search feature works about as well as the old search feature did.
  
  So I sent off my gift yesterday. I'm happy to report that the recipient did not recieve JW literature. I think I sent them something cool, but I could be wrong. If your gift sucks, just send it back and I'll refund you with a lump of coal :)

  Gifts that scream cheap or are just plain irritating!!!

  as the holiday season approaches, we often hear the term "bad gifts" or "useless gifts" being thrown around in stories of christmas past.

  i was sitting and thinking of different gift ideas and stories i heard in my life, that truly stink or are just plain irritating.

  if the thought counted, then these gifts are thoughtless.

  The worst gift I ever got was another clock. I didn't need anymore friggin' clocks, and this came from a person we spent lots of money on for gifts. We get a $15 clock in return. Hooray. That goddam thing kept falling off the wall it was so heavy. My ex took that evil clock with her when she moved. Thank god.
