I was flipping through the magazines the other day at my mom's place, and they really have changed them. It was like I was flipping through a children's magazine. The print seemed larger, the magazine felt smaller and lighter. The organization has mutated quite a bit since I left 18 years ago. I didn't think Truth could change so much in that time.

What on earth happened to the magazines?
by slimboyfat infor the first time in years today.
to say that it took me five minutes to read the whole thing would be to flatter the rag.
it doesn't even seem to contain actual articles any more, just headings and bullet points and pictures.

I know I'm bumping an old thread, but I still pop in occasionally. If you can't get ahold of me through here, click on my username in the upper right hand corner, go to my blog, and send me an email from there.
I know how lonely it is when you have nobody to relate to. I was labeled as bad association in my congregation so nobody talked to me. Worldly people were supposed to be off limits so I wasn't supposed to talk to them. Being a JW in not-so-good standing is pretty lonely.

Do you think "Blondie" is addicted to reading Watchtowers and Awakes?
by booker-t ini remember when i was a "devout" jws i could not wait to get the new watchtowers and awakes from the wednesday nite theocratic ministry school.
i would actually salivate thinking of the new information jehovah had in the magazines for us.
i was "franatical" and i would go home still in my three piece suit and devour the magazines that very nite.

I am worried about your view of people as things, a source of entertainment.
jgnat, my blog is successful solely because I do that.
If I were him, I'd take advantage of the one and only route of expression at the meetings - commenting at the Watchtower study. Take the microphone and sing your answers! That reminds me, I've been meaning to send a request for a free home Bible study for the neighbors dog.
That reminds me of the time I mailed a business-reply card for my cat to recieve free information. The cat ended up getting more junk mail than my parents and ended up on telemarketers' call lists. Took about five years for it all to go away. -

One thing I've realized over the last 10 or so years that I've been here is people leave the JWs in many different ways. Some of them leave and work hard at becoming regular worldlings, some of them join new religions, some of them become fanatical apostates, some of them enjoy disecting the religion they once belonged to, and some of them enjoy helping others leave.
We were all at one time in our lives supposed to make Jehovah our number one priority. Now, we have the freedom to choose something to replace that number one priority with anything we want, and if Blondie truly enjoys reverse engineering the Watchtower articles, then all the more power to her!

One cute canadian sister
by thomyorke ini like her videos about self-injury and other mental and physical problems, that could happened to young people.... she say that she is an active jw and regularly visit the meetings and go to service.. http://www.youtube.com/user/idranktheseawater.
but... what can you say about her wearing and hair style?.
it's cool, but it's "non-spiritual" style, not for "true" jw, isn't it ?!

and lol Nosferatu....I think you need a dramatic entrance and a pity story to get the butt kissing?
Hey! I tried! Although I will admit it was a feeble attempt. I'll do better next time ;)
And without kissing butt, I welcome you to JWN! Feel free to send me whatever you used to put into the contribution box ;)

Niece: I'm too young to date!
by Nosferatu inmy 20 year old niece and my mom are the only jw relatives i have.
her mom got kicked out for smoking and my brother ended the marriage because she was a bitch anyway.. but it's really unfortunate that my niece had to be dragged into the jws.
i really wish my brother would have put the brakes on it more.

Especially with the JW mindset, marriage is sort of a thing that a young person can be tempted to shoehorn into their lives with the wrong person and far too soon, especially because it's the only way they feel they can experience sex.
The biggest problem I see with the whole JW dating life is that typically you do NOT end up dating multiple people, and therefore you don't learn about yourself and what you actually like in the opposite sex. When a JW starts dating, their hormones take over all brain activity. They're not allowed to masturbate, and not allowed to be remotely physical with each other unless they're contemplating marriage. Logic goes out the window, hormones run rampant, and each of them goes home with wet underwear. Then they're not supposed to masturbate to relieve the sexual tension. They feel guilty for doing that and their only way to relieve the sexual tension is to marry that person ASAP.
On another sad topic, whenever my niece decides to tie the knot, I won't be attending the wedding. I swore to myself that I would NOT enter another Kingdom Hall for any purpose. Not only that, each of the parties in the marriage are supposed to put Jehovah first. They're not supposed to truly love each other and are conditioned to judge each other's actions.
