Remember what happened in 2005?
by Terry inwould any of us defend the right of a medicine manufacturer to advertise curative powers without side effects when evidence to the contrary was indicated?.
would any of us defend the right of a pharmacist to make up his own prescriptions and pass it off as what our physician specifically gave to us?.
would any of us approve equal time for tv advertisers to promote products as effective which had repeatedly proved to be dangerous?.

Anyone who has stayed a couple of years around there knows that the organization is full of good and at atimes wonderful people.
The JWs I found that were the most genuinely good people were the ones who were either "weak in the truth" or were marked as "questionable". They are the ones who don't judge others because everyone else is always judging them. As for the others, they're just brainwashed to "give a good example". When you quit going to meetings or get disfellowshipped, their real colors show. They either ignore you or use their interaction with you to get you back to the meetings. They don't genuinely care what you do outside of the kingdom hall.

What on earth happened to the magazines?
by slimboyfat infor the first time in years today.
to say that it took me five minutes to read the whole thing would be to flatter the rag.
it doesn't even seem to contain actual articles any more, just headings and bullet points and pictures.

I could honestly see the WTS moving toward dumping the public Awake & Watchtower for something simple, like a monthly tract. One page with a pretty picture on it, a little bit of fluffy text on it, and a link to jw.org promising a more informative article. They can't get rid of the publications entirely because they need to keep the R+F busy with life-saving work. As for the stuff printed exclusively for the R+F (with the exception of the exclusive Watchtower and Bibles) they can throw it all on their website for downloading. They could probably move the Watchtower onto their website and make the R+F print them off at their own expense to use at the meetings.
Times are hard and money is tight. Gotta cheapen things up a bit more!

I was flipping through the magazines the other day at my mom's place, and they really have changed them. It was like I was flipping through a children's magazine. The print seemed larger, the magazine felt smaller and lighter. The organization has mutated quite a bit since I left 18 years ago. I didn't think Truth could change so much in that time.

I know I'm bumping an old thread, but I still pop in occasionally. If you can't get ahold of me through here, click on my username in the upper right hand corner, go to my blog, and send me an email from there.
I know how lonely it is when you have nobody to relate to. I was labeled as bad association in my congregation so nobody talked to me. Worldly people were supposed to be off limits so I wasn't supposed to talk to them. Being a JW in not-so-good standing is pretty lonely.

Do you think "Blondie" is addicted to reading Watchtowers and Awakes?
by booker-t ini remember when i was a "devout" jws i could not wait to get the new watchtowers and awakes from the wednesday nite theocratic ministry school.
i would actually salivate thinking of the new information jehovah had in the magazines for us.
i was "franatical" and i would go home still in my three piece suit and devour the magazines that very nite.

I am worried about your view of people as things, a source of entertainment.
jgnat, my blog is successful solely because I do that.
If I were him, I'd take advantage of the one and only route of expression at the meetings - commenting at the Watchtower study. Take the microphone and sing your answers! That reminds me, I've been meaning to send a request for a free home Bible study for the neighbors dog.
That reminds me of the time I mailed a business-reply card for my cat to recieve free information. The cat ended up getting more junk mail than my parents and ended up on telemarketers' call lists. Took about five years for it all to go away. -

One thing I've realized over the last 10 or so years that I've been here is people leave the JWs in many different ways. Some of them leave and work hard at becoming regular worldlings, some of them join new religions, some of them become fanatical apostates, some of them enjoy disecting the religion they once belonged to, and some of them enjoy helping others leave.
We were all at one time in our lives supposed to make Jehovah our number one priority. Now, we have the freedom to choose something to replace that number one priority with anything we want, and if Blondie truly enjoys reverse engineering the Watchtower articles, then all the more power to her!
