the rule on having "large gatherings" was stupid.
because some people abused a "christian get-together" that had a lot of people, we could only get together in smaller groups.
I know I posted this before--in my area the use of tampons was banned, for reasons that were not at all clear to me.
How would they ever expect to find out?!
Movies...a lot of disney ones were banned, anything with witchcraft (snow white, sleeping beauty).
I answered the door to a JW elder while holding my copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, wow he went pale. He didn't out and out *say* JK Rowling had sold her soul to the devil for sucess but I suppose that's what "she makes a lot of money writing about these witchcraft things doesn't she?" could mean LOL.
.
i thought we ought to even things up a little... go for it!.
no obscenities please.
Haggis is scottish ya great fool- LOL
Scottish is British, and haggis has got to be someone's idea of a joke/murder weapon... it's got minced up *lungs* in it!!

sisters not being allowed to take any responsibility.
Hated that. I remember finding out women couldn't be elders (about 6 or 7) and being astonished!
"lucky"
Hehe *fortunate*.

I don't think Englishman is being touchy, it's just that that *is* the purpose of the Monarchy nowadays - tradition plays a huge part in it too.

Having to wear skirts and dresses. We walked both ways to our bookstudy and the KH was an unreliable busride away. Tights don't help much in the middle of winter.

The Royal Family, I don't get why you all put up with paying taxes for some pompous windbags
Yep, a lot of us Brits don't get it either!
jwbot - got an opening for a spare sister, you'd have to not be scared of pet rats though!
the latest "keep on the watch" publication released at the district assembly really looks like a rehash of old material (and even old pictures ... they must be running out of paint or something!)..
one 'gem' caught my eye flicking through it.
how do you reason with people to convince them that the bible account of a global flood is real?.
they can't use secular sources for proof, so much of what secular sources say completely disagree with what they teach.
Never stopped them before.
Seems to me they are only trying to "reason" with those that believe the bible is real. They are having trouble keeping their flock and so 'reasoning' with a group of people that already believe in Jesus and the bible.
Precisely - and people who already believe the Bible is the literal word of God (as JWs do) would believe the Genesis account already.
People who believe it's just a story but believe in Jesus would still believe it was a story as Jesus used stories to preach.
To a devout Christian it's watertight () evidence that ought to be good enough for anybody - that's what the WT thinks it is, IMHO.
the recent superstition thread got me to thinking.
growing up i was terrified of "demons".
sometimes when we would have witness gatherings they would start in to "demon" stories.
Closest thing I can think of is when I was about 12 I used to feel this weird feeling on the front of my throat, like fingertip pressure - place your fingers on your wrist but don't press down - it was like that amount of pressure, definitely something, but not like being throttled or anything. Used to happen when I was reading, watching TV or doing homework in my room.
It started to be a bit more pressure after a few weeks and it freaked me out a little bit - so was scared, told an elder (knew it wasn't anything demonic but was scared and sort of wanted him to see I was faithful to Jehovah) he said to leave my Bible open in my room. It stopped but I think it was due to expecting it to or not concentrating on it anymore.
Still occasionally does it, probably a weird nerve thing like if you point and move your finger toward your forehead you can sort of sometimes "feel" in before it touches.
Or our house is haunted, woooooooo!
A JW claimed to me his bed lifted off the ground and banged about with him in it and a JW family claimed their little daughter saw demons coming out of her *second hand* sandpit. It's sleep paralysis, vivid dreams and innocent children's imagination and make-believe - demons don't exist.

If *I* was a WT writer I'd be finding secular evidence for it to prove the Bible is correct, not just looking for it mentioned in the Bible. And if no secular evidence existed I'd fabricate it! I'd at least make it *look* like it was proven beyond all doubt looking between historical, "false religion" (many cultures have a flood myth) and Biblical evidence! But why do they need historical evidence when they have the word of God...?
