  when did you first realise the society wouldn't allow women to be an ms or an elder?

  i remember being seven or eight and playing dolls with an elder's daughter in her bedroom.

  my doll was meeting up with her doll at the convention after not seeing each other for a long time.

  I didn't believe it and thought it was outrageous when I found out it was true - my mum had always told me I could be anything I wanted, even "boys's jobs".
  
  I hoped that they would change it as there were so many loving and helpful women in our first congregation... though not being elders didn't change that of course!

  chief rabbi leon ashkenazi said: "the difference between an atheist christian and an atheist jew is that an atheist christian does not believe that god exists, while an atheist jew believes that god does not exist.".

  i'm not so sure about the jewish-christian borderline, but i love the nuance.. so which sentence suits you better?.

  "i don't believe that god exists.".

  I don't *care* if God exists or not because he doesn't deserve worship.
  
  Maybe I should worry about Hell... so it's good that I believe God does not exist too. :) :)

  Christian Fundamentalists and Adam and Eve

  how do people who believe a "day" of creation is a literal 24-hour day ("because the plants would have died") get around adam and eve not dying the same literal 24-hour day as eating from the tree?

  jws say that the "day" didn't equal 24 hours and that adam died within a thousand years and a day=1000 years.... but then you have the plants with no light!

  it's almost like it's made up or something!

  They CHOSE TO DIE...serving Rutherford and the WTBTS. Millions never had this opportunity to choose. They died in their millions not knowing anything else. If you want to die for a cause ...no matter how stupid it is don't come whining to me for sympathy.
  
  It wasn't just *any* cause they died for, they died for refusing to support was *the Nazis*!!
  
  If they had fallen in line and "supported" (real or pretended to) the Nazis then we would all be here on this board with another thing to throw at the WT: we would all be saying the ordinary JWs supported Hitler!
  
  No, the Jews had no choice, even atheist Jews were killed - because it was the race he hated; just like the disabled, they couldn't change that either. If the JWs should have supported the Nazis to save their lives, then should all other groups who suffered that were only following an ideology or practise have? Were they *stupid* too?
  
  I only hope that if I was in that situation, JW or not, that I wouldn't be there smiling with my arm outstretched in a Nazi salute.

  but weirdly enough, i've been mentioned here before, when one of my posts at lj (about whether or not subjection to the organization is relative) caused a bit of a war among ljjws.

  i found this forum googling my username, actually.

  i was wondering if anyone here has any theories as to why it is that, the more meetings we skip, the less we want to go.

  I wasn't meaning that you *would* rush into another faith, I was just meaning listen to your heart... which you are doing... :) :)
  
  How long have you been a JW? Are you baptised? I was a JW til I was 21 but I managed to avoid being baptised. :)

  I've been catholic, evangelist, in spiritism, then jw. Where do I go from here? =/
  
  In 19 years? Wow! Wherever you go, whether it's to another faith, atheism or back to the JWs, don't do it lightly.
  
  Trust your feelings - if you aren't comfortable with the idea of attending the meetings then there's a *reason*.
  
  Don't do anything for a while, just learn about God and Jesus by yourself and see where your heart takes you.

  hi i cant say to much i am 3rd gen witness 8 1/2 yrs inactive on the work :-).

  3 yrs no meetings best thing i ever did was stop going any way...i am baptized .

  All this compassion for a thousand or so dubs that died. They were stupid enough to follow Rutherford into "battle" against hitler only after Rutherford's efforts to appease hitler failed.
  
  Yeah, those dummies defying Hitler. They should have just saluted him along with the rest of the population, huh? Never mind standing up for what's right, that's just "stupid".
  
  The Bible Students who died (something like 250?) could have renounced their faith and openly "supported" Hitler and saved their lives. That they didn't - when they *did* have a choice others didn't - ought to make us ("us" as in humanity not ex-JWs) repect their memories, just like we should repect the memory of everyone Hitler killed.
  
  Even one murder is too many.
