I know this feel. Still in, and got my two year degree in one. Now I am going to a four year and try to do the best I can so I can get some security and fade out of the religion.

Once a nerd, always a nerd :)
by freeflyingfaerie infeelin' pretty groovy that i'm starting my college 'career' or what have you...with a 4.0. it is great to be back in school...to stimulate my mind in a college setting, get out of my cave for a bit, and maybe even eventually have the accomplishment of a degree.. or two..who knows... less than 10 years ago, this didn't even seem like a real possibility for me...because i didn't imagine it to be.
but, since the good ol' paradise didn't show up...i decided to create my own paradise (quirky and flawed as it may be) !
and this paradise includes educating my self in and out of school, being open to ideas and possibilities, experiencing things for myself, living until i die... .

Why Still Go?
by Thoughtless infor those who are disfellowshipped or da'd, why do you guys still go to the kingdom hall?
i am just curious to the fact, because if they are teaching falsehood, why partake in it?
i mean, you do not have to maintain appearances any longer, so what is your motivation or reason?

TRUEE. I was really aiming at the DF'd or DA'd ones. I KNOW that there must be some who know the TTATT and must still be going to the Hall.

1009, I agree with you on that to an extent. When I comment, I try to comment on a point that doesn't bother my own personal conscience in regard to the faithful and discreet slave. When I first had doubts, it caused me a lot of turmoil, but it was what I call, a "shallow" questioning due to the fact that I wanted to realize my full potential, so ultimately it was selfish. Now, I have come to a more integral questioning, due to the fact that I am analyzing on the basis of doctrine. I do agree with neutrality, blood issue, as of evangelizing, I am unsure. When I say appearances, I mean appearance in the sight of the elders. I am pretty much independent too for I have almost no friends in the congregation except a really cool elder who is like 32. But to be honest, we are both exercising independent thinking, in which, makes us both apostates in the WTBS belief. Only difference is, that you seem more sincere than me at the moment.

I think some of the ideas expressed here - through Corboy and 1009 - are the 'new' jehovah's witness.
They're still involved because of family and friends. They pick and choose what they want to participate in. They are selective about their associates in the congregation. They have doubts and questions and know it's better to keep this to themselves. They stick with the big 'doctrines' and rules ( blood, neutrality, meeting attendance, regular field service, etc.) but ignore the 'little' stuff. It's no biggie to drink too much, watch 'bad' movies or listen to 'debasing' music, have a 'worldly' girl or boy friend (secret), etc. Just so you show up for service the next morning. They pose as ones 'reaching out' for congregational responsibility. They pioneer (and live at home) so they don't have to get a job. They volunteer for building and remodelling projects. They always have their Watchtower and Jeremiah book underlined.
The 'new' Jehovah's Witness is about appearances. Looking good. Looking right.
_____
As a "new" Witness, I agree. I have a very clean appearance, if not schizoid appearance in the Hall. I do a watch "bad" movies and listen to "bad" music, but not the booze (I do not believe in alcohol) or a girlfriend (too risky). After learning TTATT, I just stopped caring and right now, I am in a spiritual limbo. Just getting on by. I do not pioneer, but I still go to field service for appearances. It was a time when I would answer and study ALL of the WT articles, and many saw me to become the next BIG thing, but I fell off. As I have gotten older, I started to care about doctrine and started to actually THINK and question. Everytime I go to the meeting, I find myself falling into the illusion again, but I KNOW that this religion is false, but I am now living a life of appearances, an inauthentic life. It's not fun. I consider myself an existentialist, but Christ, it just sucks to still be in.

A question for elders and former elders who have served on JCs
by slimboyfat inbased on your experience of judicial committees, how would you advise someone who is due to meet with the elders and has asked for the best way to avoid being disfellowshipped?
is denying everything ever a successful strategy?
does addressing a letter to the elders threatening legal action if they disfellowship ever work?
-

Honestly, if I was pulled into a JC tomorrow for fornication (something that I didn't do) and if I denied it and there were no witnesses, then HOW SCRIPTURALLY can they disfellowship me? I thought it was a lot more logical than this.

Damn, I am at work, but seeing two twins fight is always funny. It's usually hotter if they were lesbian though.

The official list of things for which you may be disfellowshipped
by slimboyfat infrom the secret elders' book which states that the list "of course" is "not comprehensive".
nevertheless here are the acts that they deem worthy of specifying as being possible grounds for chucking people out:.
murdermanslaughter such as killing someone while breaking traffic lawsattempting suicidesexual intercourse with someone other than your spouseanal sex with someone other than your spouseoral sex with someone other than your spousesexual stimulation of the genitals of someone other than your spousedelay in reporting a rape?

Tim, it is not a comprehensive list. So this actual list is more IMPLIED but it still happens.

I am absolutely disgusted.
Merriam Webster's definition of shun: " to avoid deliberately and especially habitually ". There is no other way around this but absolute bullsh*t.
