please join in sending your prayers, good thoughts, reiki, healing vibes, lighting a candle or just taking a moment to think of all those named and unnamed who are fighting cancer or in any other need.
also their loved ones and caregivers.. - has been fighting mantle cell lymphoma for three years.
he received an allogeneic cell transplant and his latest blood and bone marrow results have shown no trace of cancer!!
Thought I'd remind people that when someone is diagnosed as being 'Terminally ill' it is wise to sit down for a while and collect your thoughts. At one time terminal illness meant you only had weeks, if not months, to live. Now, because of medical advances, terminal illness can be a term used for someone who lives for years (I bet the insurance companies have been quick to notice and will act to close this "loophole").
I was diagnosed with a terminal illness and given 18 months to 3 years to live. Most people here know I refused trteatment, deciding to use alternative therapies which resulted in my being given only six weeks to live.I came perilously close to death but mainstream medicine kept me alive. It saved my life!
Now, three years later, I am still here and feeling far better than I have for those three years. So, the lesson is CLEAR! Whenever YOU or someone you love is diagnosed as being terminally ill please don't always think the end is literally just a week or so away. Of course, not every illness is the same and there ARE some virtually impossible-to-treat illnesses. But, in the main, 'terminal illness' doesn't now have to mean a death sentence.
Love,
Ian

Hi Ian
That is brilliant news I hope continue doing well
Regards to you and Claire

Thank you, David. Yes, the news truly is terrific and, as you can imagine, I hang on every word! However, I doubt I shall ever feel really comfortable until at least a year has gone by, by which time I should be off ALL medication and the horrendous three years I had will be a distant memory. I have actually met someone who had a stem cell transplant 10 years ago (for a different disease to me) and, sadly, the disease has returned in a different form (he has leukaemia). However, I also know of a few people who had the same disease as I and who have been cancer free for over 10 years!! I always look on the positive and say to myself that if I got 10 years cancer free the advances in medicine would mean the treatments would likely be easier and have greater efficacy. I truly believe chemotherapy will soon be a treatment of the past. Scientists are now using (in some cases), and continually researching the use of, vaccinations to target specfic cancer cells. In other words, the treatments are focussing on hitting the cancer cells alone, unlike chemo which affects all cells in the body. Cancer WILL one day be a disease of the past, but then there are still the other terrible diseases to attack....................... This is why Stem Cell Research is VITAL and no government has the right to deprive its people of such potentially life-saving treatments. Ian
finally, right.
ok. i know this jw lady that i talk to.
she doesn't know i am an exjw.
Hi Eryn,
You did wonderfully well with your friend, but herein lies the problem for the majority of JWs:
Anyway, we talked a bit. She said that those trials happened a long time ago and I reminded her that the latest reports are about the coverup. She went into witness mode and told me that if they are required by law to report, yadda yadda yadda.
There are none so blind as those who will not see!
If you could get Jesus himself to appear on TV to renounce the Watchtower cult you can bet your life the JWs would shout "Fraud!", and "I'm doing nothing until Watchtower directs us!"

((((((Gill)))))),
I agree. I have had four blood transfusions during the last four years. At first, being then only a "recent" exiter from the org I wondered how I'd react conscience-wise! Well, the JWs allow themselves to take fractions from blood and yet nowhere in the Bible (using their excuse) does it say that blood must be poured out but it's ok to save the fractions.
Well, I decided to use all the fractions together - and they came packaged in blood

Hi Gill:
I know what you mean, Ian!
As soon as I read it I thought "Here we go, the JWs will be rubbing their hands and quoting a top doctor about how dangerous blood is and how JW policy against its use is right."
You can actually pick out the sentences from the above article they would use to back up their claims - so now I'm afraid we're going to see yet more people die from refusing transfusions! As usual, they will twist the article to serve their needs.

imho....it all needs to go.
its influencing everything in this world every and anywhere.
from the saudies, to the people in irag, iran and anywhere else our sons will need to be sent.. our current president claims he is influenced along with the former prime minister of england by religious beliefs.. there is the huge evangelical influence that got bush and the mess he made who put them in to begin with.. we have the jw's causing absolute havic in anyone's lives connected with this stupidity.. it goes on and on and on.
Hi Restrangled & Others,
What, exactly, do you mean by 'organised religion'? For example, Buddhism is often classed as a religion and it is "organised" by monks - but it is classed as a philosophy, too. Now, as far as I know, Buddhism (Sri Lanka aside - which seems to have its own version) hasn't caused any trouble in the world, so would you ask for its banning, too?
I ask this in all sincerity as we have to be careful we don't lump all religion together.

The transfusions are designed to improve the delivery of oxygen to the body's tissues. But researchers found patients who received a transfusion had a three-fold increase in complications linked to lack of oxygen. The Bristol Heart Institute study is published in the journal Circulation.
The researchers examined data on over 8,500 patients who underwent cardiac surgery over an eight-year period. They found the risks associated with transfusion occurred regardless of the patients level of haemoglobin - the oxygen-carrying substance in red blood cells. Lead researcher Dr Gavin Murphy said the problems were probably linked to changes in the red blood cells which took place while they were in storage, and which affected their capacity to carry oxygen. In addition, toxins can build up in the fluid in which they are stored. Dr Murphy said there was evidence to suggest that the cells suppress the immune system, but also increase the risk of potentially damaging inflammation. However, it was very difficult to pinpoint their effect in patients who were usually already extremely sick. Untested theory Professor Peter Weissberg is medical director of the British Heart Foundation, which funded the study. He said: "Red blood cells carry oxygen around the body to supply vital organs. "Not unreasonably therefore, heart surgeons have assumed that patients who have low red blood cell counts after surgery - as a result of blood loss during or shortly after surgery - would benefit from a 'top up' transfusion of donated red blood cells. "This study shows the importance of putting such widespread beliefs to the test since it suggests that such transfusions may cause more problems than they solve." Professor Weissburg said the results would help to make heart surgery safer. In the UK over half of all heart surgery patients are given blood. However, only about 3% of these transfusions are given because of life-threatening bleeding. The remainder are usually given on the basis of a low haemoglobin level, regardless of whether the patient has physical symptoms to suggest they need blood. The researchers now intend to carry out a larger study to see if changing transfusion guidelines could improve patient outcomes. For the time being it is suggested that surgeons think twice before giving their patients a transfusion. More research is needed to find out how red cell transfusions may affect immunity or tissue oxygenation to cause these harmful effects, and to determine how stored donor blood products may be made safer prior to transfusion |
