  i'll tell you guys something, being nice doesn't get you anywhere in this world.

  being nice gets your heart broken, gets you walked all over, and taken advantage of.

  whenever someone sees you as a nice guy, they'll see you as a person they can take advantage of, and you'll let them because you're nice..

  didn't wanna hi-jack jesika's lovely thread, so i started a new one, so we could reminisce a little longer...<sigh>estee...i just would like to add, i loved your post over at sheilam's.

  i don't know if your grandmother's place was nestled along the shores of lake winnipeg or not, but when i remember gimli, even "i" have fond memories (august 1992), walking along the sugary white sand in +30c heat.

  Hi Metatron,

  I don't know if we have been visited by aliens or not but something is always familiar about sightings or landings:

  1) An alien craft crashes but there's never any REAL substantiated proof. Newspapers, television, radio might mention a "report" of such a crash but there's never any real evidence on display. I don't believe the military throughout the world can remove everything.

  2) An alian craft is photographed/videoed - but the pictures are NEVER close-up and without blurs. Most of these pictures have windows and yet one never sees an unblurred alien looking out the window.

  3) People who have been abducted are never seen by scores of people when the abduction takes place.

  4) If we've been visited so frequently why haven't the aliens taken over? They're obviously far more intelligent than us judging by the superiour craft they're supposed to have so why haven't they contacted their buddies and invaded us?

  5) Why aren't aliens or their craft seen, videoed, photographed by hundreds of people at the same time? Why is it always by a handful or less?

  6) Why haven't the aliens zapped Brooklyn Bethel whereupon I would be their most loyal supporter!

  Those who simply leave the faith are not shunned. If, however, someone unrepentantly practices serious sins, such as drunkenness, stealing, or adultery, he will be disfellowshipped and such an individual is avoided by former fellow-worshipers. Every effort is made to help wrongdoers. But if they are unrepentant, the congregation needs to be protected from their influence. The Bible clearly directs: "Remove the wicked man from among yourselves." (1 Corinthians 5:13) What of a man who is disfellowshipped but whose wife and children are still Jehovah's Witnesses? The spiritual ties he had with his family change, but blood ties remain. The marriage relationship and normal family affections and dealings can continue. As for disfellowshipped relatives not living in the same household, Jehovah's Witnesses apply the Bible's counsel: "Quit mixing with them." (1 Corinthians 5:11) Disfellowshipped individuals may continue to attend religious services and, if they wish, they may receive spiritual counsel from the elders with a view to their being restored. They are always welcome to return to the faith if they reject the improper course of conduct for which they were disfellowshipped.

  My wife, two sons and I left the Borg 3 months ago. In that time we have ALL been shunned (including my younger 13-year old son who isn't even baptised) and not a solitary person has been round (thankfully!!) or telephoned to "help" us!

  So, the rank and file are advised through the Watchtower and Kingdom Ministry to treat those who leave the Organisation as if they were disfellowshipped while the JW official public information website churns out the contradiction that we are NOT to be shunned.
