Everquest all the way here ;-). Anyone else play it? I think I'm pretty much hooked on EQ until EverQuest 2 comes out and/or WoW (been awaiting WoW for a while).

What kind of video games do you play?
by dustyb ini play pc games for the most part.
i'm still in the old counter-strike mode.
but i also like to play unreal tournament 2003 and 2004. i also like battlefield 1942/vietnam and farcry.. i would recommend the athlon 64 or fx(if you gots lots of cash) series from amd over a pentium, since they run 32 stuff fast now and can do 64 bit when the production version is released.

Passion of the Christ...for kids
by Princess inso my favorite baptist church (in my backyard) was putting up an a-frame sign as i was walking the kids home from school yesterday.
just in time for last night's screaming kid festival, um...awana, they were advertising the passion of the christ for kids.
my son only saw that they would be giving out free popcorn.

Here is another link to the Easter Bunny "show" or whatever, hopefully this isn't what they were going to show the children around your area Princess:

To clarify my post above, I wouldn't take my younger children if I had any. Currently don't have any children, but I know I'd feel uncomfortable taking my youngest nephews/nieces and I know I'd not feel comfortable exposing any young child to something this graphic.

I read about this "Passion of the Christ for Kids" stuff and I wouldn't want my younger kids seeing it either, sounds pretty traumatizing:

I'm surprised more people (none in this thread ?) don't play MMORPGs, either that or I'm a complete dork .
I play EverQuest fanatically, I'm quite the addict to it. Have been playing it for 5 years now and I still enjoy logging on almost daily .
Anyone else play this game or any similar games (FFXI, DAoC, etc.)?

I don't find the warrant that unjustified, the family just fit a pattern of typical pot growers which (apparently) had led them to real culprits in the past. If the pattern is fairly accurate, of course they are going to apply it. It's not like they were harmed in any way, just slightly inconvenienced. I would be more "outraged" if they would have taken her to jail or whatever just because of the electric bill, but that didn't happen; they just made sure to investigate their suspicions. Besides, like they said in the article, a whole lot more small coincidences just fell into place against them. The dog reacting and trash day being on that day, etc.
It'd be interesting to see, however, how successful their pattern is in identifying actual law violations/pot growers. I'd say that if it's even a remotely positive number (ie more than half of the people ?) then it's not such a heinous thing.

Achieving Salvation
by desib77 inthe other night, i had a couple of pastors over to try to answer some questions i had.
they came prepared to "save me" and even tried to do so.
tonight i bought a book that mentioned being saved by accepting the work of christ and asking jesus to save me.

I think you should follow whatever your heart tells you to do. I found my personal "salvation" by believing in a God who loves us unconditionally, just for who we are. I think everyone has their own path, however, and it is up to you to find it and find your peace in it.
May you find your way soon desib :-).

How to take down the WTS. Maybe for good.
by avishai ini just heard the most brilliant plan ever.
we draft an all purpose legal document to send to the wts stating that "i,__________ do not want any jw's ever coming to my door, please put me on the do not call list and send this to the congregation nearest me, if they do, i will construe this as harrasment and act accordingly" .
then we pass these out, do a mass mailing, give them to all of our friends, encourage people to make copies and give them to their friends, call it the sleep in on saturday document.

They can think I'm Satan incarnate for all I care as long as they don't bug me at my house anymore ;-).
This is a great idea Avishai, I would definately do it as well. Although this neighborhood seems eerily quiet of JW's, but better to have the option to opt out of any future visits :-).

What must we do to be saved?
by Dawn injw's love this topic and have a long list of "do's & don'ts" that need to be completed in order to be saved.
as you all know - it is a "works based" belief - if you do enough you might make it.
i have struggled with that concept since i was little, wondering how in the world we could ever do enough to be considered worthy.

Assuming there is a God, and that he is a "God of love" I believe you don't have to do anything to be saved. Just by virtue of being his creation we are saved. As an all-loving father, it wouldn't make sense to condem any part of his creation for the way He made them. I believe that when we die, all is forgiven and we are "clean" before Him. No caring parent could stand to hear the cries of eternal suffering coming from the supposed place called "Hell". I think we are saved by compassion, wether we "accepted" Christ or not; his message was that of salvation, not destruction.
Of course, I'm still not even sure of His existance or the existance of an after life, so it could be some beliefs I hold in my mind as a "comfort" factor I guess.
I don't think any of us will ever know the answer until we die.
