i'm intrigued by the whole "bible chronology" topic, but have never really dug into it because to put any of it together you need a historically reliable starting point.
this wasn't a problem as a practicing jw because you just assumed their dates were right.
i would like for someone to give me one event described in the bible that is universally established and accepted historically that i can use as a reliable starting point.
There ain't none. History belongs to him who writes it!

**this was predicted from some members here**.
to all congregations .
re: adjustments in organizational terminology and assembly arrangements .
My take is that attending the AGM will become an annual event and take the place of one of the days that use to be spent at the CA. I also see the District Convention(aka Regional Convention) going to 2 days. I will miss the Special Assembly Day, SAD, because it made me SAD to attend the not so special gathering. And when did we start having a "Memorial Season"? The Memorial is one day, 45 minutes of blah, blah and that makes a Season! Wow! Next will be the AGM season in October. So JW's will have their own Holy Day seasons. Where would such an idea come from?

i was thinking about the term apostate and decided to search it i. the glorious "revised revised revision of the nwt" and found interesting things.
first it only appears twice.
in proverbs 11:9 .
The "new light" for this year's DC or AGM will be the 'revelation' that Jesus was really talking about "apostates" when he spoke about the "evil slave" and that the "evil slave" is not hypothetical after all.

do you ever get the feeling some on this site represent a view of themselves, as needing to "shine"?.
academia by it's very nature represents this.
if one is truly a member of academia then "knock yourself out".

wow.
the insight book has some outlandish reasoning.
i'm trying to put together a talk for tomorrow night, the number 3 on abhorrent things (insight vol 1, p 17) and the entire first half links abhorrent things to menstruating women through a "possible" derived word that might mean uncleaness.
How did the Jews find time to do anything meaningful? They were always busy cleansing themselves, sacrificing some poor animal, or celebrating some festival. Busy work!

little details in the bible tell us the various authors wrote of past events but used features current to their day.. instruments mentioned in daniel, and recent carbon dating of camels places their domestication around the 10th century bce.
yet genesis says they accompained abraham on his journey.. www.smithsonian.com.
Abraham was using dinosaurs but calling them camels.
eve says, "this is .
" so eve eateth of the tree.
so adam eateth of the tree, also.. and he blamed eve for everything.
Great work of history of the WTBTS.
as an actively inactive person who attends meetings pretty regularly, i have made an observation that would be comical if it weren't so pathetic.. between the watchtower study and the weekly bible study ( which is actually a book study, but don't tell anyone) i have noticed the witnesses being urged to have love among themselves and reach out to nes who may be weaker or having difficulties.
so, within the next week or two there is a general warming-up toward me, a friendly phone call from my assigned field service group overseer, a hike across the auditorium by the coboe to ask how i'm doing, etc.. then comes the wt article, now and then, that mentions how dangerous bad associations can be, even from among those in the congregation!
(gasp!
Ditto here for me! I went from 'esteemed elder' to a 'truth teller' and for that the brothers and sisters kinda keep their distance.
Ro. 9:1 "I am telling the truth in Christ; I am not lying, since my conscience bears witness with me in holy spirit,"
2 Cor. 4:2 "but we have renounced the underhanded things of which to be ashamed, not walking with cunning, neither adulterating the word of God, but by making the truth manifestrecommending ourselves to every human conscience in the sight of God."
and my very favorite
Galatians 4:16 " Well, then, have I become YOUR enemy because I tell YOU the truth?"

last night my third oldest child wanted to know why we stayed in the organization so long.
child is a third year college student enjoying all the classes this "wicked system" has to offer, the insatiable appetite for learning makes him want to argue and debate, i don't have the energy to debate because i don't feel good with all life has thrown our way.. .
"the only reason i went to meetings so long was because grandma and grandpa needed somebody to take them to meetings and cobe aunt and uncle and secretary aunt and uncle refused to talk to grandma for years, otherwise i would have stopped attending the kingdom hall because the kids were assholes and i was always the one who had to make "first contact", "i was the one who had to go around and meet and greet newbies while the regular jw wall-flowers (calebs) ignored all the visitors and new persons visiting our kingdom hall.
Yep we all "believed" at one time that this was God's organization. The promises that God (aka gb) made to us about a perfect life in paradise was very seductive. As thos old German man once said "Too bad ve grow olt to zoon and shmart to lade".

The 'inviting work to the DC' is so "publishers" who don't know squat can feel like they did something. You get to "cpunt your time" while calling on empty houses inviting people to travel 80 to 100 miles for a 1 hour talk. Yea that's going to happen!
