Good info Terry but what amazes me is that we all bought this stuff for so long! Why were we so afraid to "look behind the curtain"?

we've all heard the true story.. william miller, a baptist lay preacher and war hero, carefully worked out the 2nd coming of jesus using the bible and chronology.. he was invited to speak and explain his warnings and proof in many churches.
tens of thousands heard and believed and waited.. nothing happened.
the great big nothing was called "the great disappointment.".
Good info Terry but what amazes me is that we all bought this stuff for so long! Why were we so afraid to "look behind the curtain"?

to all congregations in the united states branch territory re: branch visit in november 2014 .
dear brothers: .
on february 11, 2014, the bethel family was excited to learn that a branch visit is sched- uled for the united states.
Aren't we SPECIAL! (that word SPECIAL appears 3 times in this letter)
As we all knew when the GB decided to eliminate the SAD and "shorten" the CA's to 1 day, they would create a SPECIAL "new and exciting" way have an 'all day' (aka 3 hour) session. It will be a 'SPECIAL' Branch visit or the AGM or something else "SPECIAL" to occupy our time. I will not be attending! November is football season here in the USA!

my aunt passed away last week.
she was a widow and left an only son who never married.
my cousin took care of my aunt with help from friends, family and neighbors for close to two years.. the funeral was last saturday with a catholic church service in the morning and a cemetery chapel service before burial.
at what time did god blind the israelites, (to wonder for.
40 years)?
after crossing the red sea exodus states 15;22.
Hello,
Jehovah has been leading JW's around the "wilderness" of this world for 130 years! However, my shoes wear out about every 4 years! Dang! If the 'manna' was anything like the "food" from the WTBTS, I can see why the Israelites griped about it!

i was speaking to a friend who went to the circuit assembly a couple weeks ago.
he actually taped a portion of the first talk cause he said the do was pretty entertaining.
the do said something like - jehovah doesn't like laws.
Jehovah changes his mind a lot! He doesn't like laws? He's the one who made the laws to begin with!
He doesn't like people either? He made them and then destroyed 99% of them at the "flood".

well i went on a date saturday, and while i was walking to to the restaurant i see one of the 'elders' in one of my old congregations ( central compton ) walked past me real fast .
i realized it was one of the 'elders' who protected the 'elder' who held my card ( other story ) for 8 months .
well to make the long story short other witness came, and where scared to see me back in town lol.
PC-G,
The really scary part of your story is that while you were a "faithful witness" you would have behaved the exact same way toward a df'ed person. How we view life when not under the spell of the WTBTS is quite amazing isn't it!

i think by most accounts, my previous posts have testified to my moving towards an agnostic stance.
i just don't know and i can't believe for belief's sake.
i came across a quote i thought quite timely in my journey.. .
Hi SoP
After 60+ years as a JW (20+ as an elder) I can honestly say that I am much more at peace with:
"having questions that cannot be answered" than "having answers that cannot be questioned!"

anyone else know that there is 1 huge dc in houston this year at reliant stadium?.
jws are traveling almost 4 hours or maybe more (havent talked to others up north) to attend the dc.
this is the first year that this has happened, just having 1 convention so far away.. .
maybe i am ignorant but why why why pray tell.
if i am not jewish and not of the 144k why is it necessary (compulsory even) for me to attend the memorial ?.
what is the scriptural precedent?.
Everything JW's do after and including baptism is compulsary and ritualistic! Modern JW's resemble more the ancient Jews than the early Christians, IMHO.

this is an observation i have made .
yesterday a group of jw`s entered the street where i live , i`m at the end of a street and they stood around and obviously joked and mucked around for about 10 minutes as a group opposite my house .their were 3 teenage girls ,1 teenage boy , and 3 older men .
this was about 10:30 am on a saturday.
No urgency by the GB either. They are building 'bigger storehouses' for themselves. 4-6 year construction project in upper New York. Instead of "gathering ourselves together and all the more so as the day draws near" JW's wil now be meeting less and less. Only 2 meetings per week and the assemblies are now only 1 day. Nope the 'day must not be drawing near' as we've heard for about 100 years now. lol
