When your oldest friend is a JW and they die

in my book, i wept by the rivers of babylon, i described the process of having a friend, johnny santa cruz, use our friendship as a platform for converting me to a jehovah's witness.. that friendship cost me decades of my life in bondage to a cult.. the friendship was real and johnny and i bonded for life.

but, the religion eventually turned him into a stone silence toward me--his oldest friend.

now he is dead and the imaginary reunion and meeting of the minds is no longer a possibility.. this makes his passing a double tragedy.. his memories were my memories.

As I read your many well worded posts, I can't believe how much your life and my life mirror each other in so many ways. I'm not anywhere nearly as eloquent a writer as you but I wish that I were. lol. Things that I think we have in common:

We are both about the same age 68-70. Both jdubs for about 6 decades. Both married young (I'm still married to the same lovely woman now for 49 years). Both went through the Vietnam era fiasco and spent a little time in "prison". Both pioneered afterward. Both wasted much of our time on this earth believing and practicing the nonsense that is the wtbts. Both woke up to ttatt later in life and are a bit miffed that we were so foolish. Both have/had as our best friend one that is/was a 'super dub' from which we were or have been alienated due to 'da troof'.

I hope to one day meet you in person and be able to openly discuss our lives as ex-dubs i.e. the golden years of the wtbts. My 'super dub' best friend lives only 40 miles away but we hardly ever talk or see each other. We used to be able to talk about everything, including the good old days of being a witness. We often talked about all the many changes/flip flops of the borg and wondered why. I miss him terribly but he knows that I'm inactive and sort of shuns me these past 10 years since the borg has created the 'apasta-fear'.

It's so awkward that people have to touch the emblems

it's just so weird to me.

for a group that is against idolatry so much and yet each person has to "touch" the bread and wine.. one lady was standing and holding a baby.

she called the server over just so she could put her thumb on the bread and wine.. did jesus ever clarify what he wanted them to do in remembrance of him?

To make "the memorial" seem so much more important than just a simple ritual, several years ago, the gb coined the phrase "memorial season". lol Now JW's also have a 'holiday season'! Oh what joy.

Anyone remember when it became the "memorial season"?

i just got the news from our former congregation in hollister, ca regarding a tragic event following the 'memorial' wednesday night.

we shared the kh with 2 spanish congos.. a couple from the spanish congregation were leaving the kh so that the next spanish congo could have their 'memorial'.

they exited the parking lot in their car when hit by an oncoming car right in front of the kh.

I just got the news from our former congregation in Hollister, CA regarding a tragic event following the 'memorial' Wednesday night. We shared the KH with 2 Spanish congos.

A couple from the Spanish congregation were leaving the KH so that the next Spanish congo could have their 'memorial'. They exited the parking lot in their car when hit by an oncoming car right in front of the KH. The sister was killed instantly and the brother was life flighted to a nearby hospital. Must have been difficult for the next congo to "celebrate" their 'memorial'.

On such a "holy night" you'd think that the angels or jesus or big j could have watched over the brother and his wife. RIP

Is the WT’s Paradise Earth doctrine a delusion?

the wt’s teaching that humans will live forever on a paradise earth will necessitate that given that there will be no more death, then immortal humans will have to be relocated to other planets in order to prevent the earth from becoming overpopulated.. so how many habitable, earth-like planets are there?more and more habitable, earth-like planets would have to become available on a continuous, never-ending basis ad infinitum as mankind’s population grows given that there will be no more death.. the longevity/sustainability of life on these planets will be limited by the fact that the sun serving these planets will eventually die:https://shar.es/1cko6n.

JW TV Monthly Broadcast - 3rd unofficial Meeting!

did any one notice that the monthly broadcast on jw tv is being treated like a meeting similar to the old book study arrangement?.

at our kh, in uk, all congregations meeting at the hall have a monthly arrangement for this.

some have a group arrangement and alternate between family homes to watch the broadcast and some use the kh on weekends.. this arrangement in our congregation, at least, is being treated as a meeting for each of the groups.

I've watched a few of the broadcasts out of curiosity. How he hell can anyone who has been a long time dub watch them without getting a little nauseated? Amateur hour all the way.

many posters quote geoffrey jackson as saying " it would be presumptuous" to say that the gb is jehovah's sole spokesperson on earth.. what he actually said was that "it would seem to be quite presumptuous".

this is actually very clever, as adding "seem" to the sentence leaves the possibility that it isn't presumptuous to call themselves "jehovah's sole channel".

(at least in their eyes).

What a great provision from jehober. We put our grand kids in SKI school this year. We had some great snow this year and they loved learning how to ski and snow board. My wife and I made them breakfast every morning. It was a great week indeed to see their little faces enjoying one of life's little pleasures.

Oh wait, is this OP about SKI school (fun) or about the SKE school (bs indoctrination). I'm confused! lol

So Thankful

i was just sitting here on this beautiful saturday afternoon thinking about how thankful i am that i left the jws.

do i wish i had woke up and left sooner, sure.

but i'm definitely happy that i'm out period, and for so many reasons but i just will share a few.

It's sort of nice how that works. I mean having time to really enjoy life. No more "busy work" like, getting ready for meetings, studying for meetings, going to the meetings, field serve-us, preparing for field serve-us, days of going to assemblies and conventions, giving talks or other meeting parts, hours of preparing talks or other meeting parts, weeks of kh building, hours kh cleaning, hosting speakers, etc.

Having time for family, leisure, hobbies, and passions is invaluable. Yep, So thankful!

Ray said that when he became a gb member that ,"illusions there met up with reality"! When one wakes up to ttatt, we have that same experience. Being a dub is a life long pursuit of illusions!

Back to the OP though, none of the current gb dudes have enough ambition to leave. They are all just fat f*#king lazy cats that "have it made in the shade" so to speak. Some may one day wake up to ttatt (maybe already have) BUT they saw what happened to Ray and they are not going to trade their life of celebrity for one of poverty!
