- 38 years old
- Healthy
- Debt-free and financially secure.
- Ten more years added onto existing friendships and maybe a couple new ones
- At greater peace with myself and the world around me
- Increased spiritual development why still managing to avoid religion!!
- Finally able appreciate a possible mate for their inner qualities only instead of making their value contingent on physical appearance
- 17 years from a painful past and a present at peace with that past
- Someone who is less selfish and more aware of how my actions(or lack therefore) affect others and the world
- Looking forward to the next ten years

What is funny, is they just don't get it!
by Sprocket ini wanted to pass on a recent experience i had.
my mother passed away a few months ago.
the funeral was poised to be a sensitive issue since, when i left the truth 4 years ago, none of my children (all adults and still active in their faith) have spoken to me.

My father and brother( among others) treat me the exact same way. When I last saw them at a family reunion, my brother pretended there was nothing but air where I was standing. My father finally walked up to me and gave me the same exact line "If you come back then we will talk to you."
I basically told him that I have a new "family" now that treats me better then my old one ever did, plus I am WAY happier now. So why would I want to be someone I am not and play by their rules just so they can treat me like crap again?
Apparently, this hurt him a great deal, from what I heard later from my uncle. Truth hurts.

My stupid neighbors!
by DanTheMan inmy next door neighbor ed is a very nice man.
he and his wife have lived in their house for 37 years.
they are avid gardeners and the landscaping around their house is gorgeous.. however, my neighbor 2 doors down (on the other side of ed) is another story.

The two of you hit on much of what I would have identified, but here are a couple others I could think of:
1. Thinking I knew everything and having a very closed mind to other ways of life and thought.
2. Only having parents who "cared" when they felt like having power over something-certainly not their own lives.
IE: Inactive and totally absent from raising my brother and I except when it came to abuse(stepmother) and disparaging comments
(father).

Did You Ever Believe This?
by RAYZORBLADE inwith all these 'apostates' receiving visits from the jws out in their field ministry, did you, or do you remember anything vaguely reminiscent of this statement i am going to post.
more or less, that because said-jehovah's witnesses are inspired or have jehovah's blessing, that they can avoid harmful situations, or have some sort of divine guidance, thus they should be able to know or sense we are: a p o s t a t e s ?
i seem to recall something like this.

Does anyone remember the tales about the female pioneer/publisher at the door who was spared assault due to the two angels flanking her while she witnessed? I remember buying that one back in the day.

Wow! What a welcome. Thanks for all the kind thoughts and well wishes.
I hope that my 16 yrs experience(age 5-21) within the organization and subsequent 7 years outside proves
to be of some value here. Don't want to take all the time and not give anything back!

Been lurking on the forum for a few months now and have been absolutely blown away at the things I have been reading.
I knew The Society wasn't right but didn't have any specific reasons for that thought other than being disfellowshipped
and shunned by family and friends alike.
Now I have tons thanks to you guys! Looking forward
to further healing and enlightenment.
