Jonah and the big myth

many here have heard that many/most famous bible tales are in fact merely local versions of often repeated pagan myths with a twist.

the jonah story is a classic.

the story is familiar to all, the joppa setting, the stormy sea and boat, the swallowing by a whale/fish, reappearance after 3 days.

Gordon Lightfoot

ok, if you're a canuck, chances you know that gordon lightfoot is about right up there with ol' jehover!.

but if not, nevermind, but i have to admit, i have been a lifelong fan of: gordon lightfoot.. this evening, i took his 'greatest hits' and gave it a listen, and as expected, i was still enthralled with his lyrical genius, and playing abilities.. anyone a gordon lightfoot fan?.

just curious.. all your folks living along north america's "great lakes" keep in mind, next month is the 28th anniversary of the sinking of the "edmund fitzgerald".. that song, by gordon lightfoot is haunting from beginning to end (over 6 minutes).. i personally love: go-go girl in love, bitter green, canadian railway trilogy, sundown, race among the ruins, wreck of the edmund fitzgerald, and well i like just about every damn thing he ever did.. your contributions?

yes, i know....there've been topics started discussed about ebay.. i've had an absolute blast with it as of recent.. what have i bought lately?.

a yellow dial telephone in excellent condition (from manitoba).

several 45's (vinyl records).. i'm amazed at what you can find on there.

i was reading about apomixis, (reproduction without the interaction of gametes) and found some interesting things.

dandelions for instance produce flowers and pollen that are useless to the plant.

the flowers are evolutionary vestiges from ancetral plants that reproduced the usual way.

my mother attended the special one day assembly program saturday, and told me that there were 5 people getting baptized.

now i would think that at least 10 times that amount have either left the org.

during that time, or been disfellowshipped from the congregations in the circuit.
