In my heathenistic opinion, you erred using logic in posing your question/statement. If you try to use some logic or reality when thinking this stuff up you can't win!

i'm not much of a bible expert myself so i was wondering what good bible/jesus wisdoms do you know?
things that can help you in daily life by keeping them in the back of your mind.
also i'm not looking for cliche's that everyone knows regardless if they ever opened the bible, more like philosophical wisdoms that even atheists should know.
- More against the handicapped: if your testicles are crushed, please don't enter God's house. It really freaks him out.
That's not such a weird idea. Think about it: Any male that even thought about some guy with crushed testicles would automatically wince in sympathy pain from the mere thought! It would distract them and make them uncomfortable. It already made the J-man uncomfortable enough to ban them from his houses of worship.
No, I think this is a good rule -- especially for males. Stay away from dudes with crushed testes so you won't have that sympathetic pain. Heck, I'm sweating just a bit from even thinking about it!

Although I am not a JW, that book is very powerful persuasion. I did have a problem of sorts with Ron Rhodes' rabid evangelical/born-again stance on everything.
While he makes good points and arguments against JW doctrinal points, his (seemingly) hard-line Christian fundamentalist, wave-your-hands-in-the-air, close your eyes and say "JAY-SUS" attitude kinda gets on my nerves, too.
As a matter of balance, his "Reasoning From the Scriptures with Catholics" is another good read for debunking a lot of the catholics' nonsensical and man-made doctrines using his fundy attitude, too.
Facts are a good thing. Facts couched in all that "HALLELUJAH!!!!!" stuff just makes me weary.

But then there is abolutely no evidence, archeologically or in ancient writings, that prove the 40 years of wandering the desert, either... It's physically impossible if you try to parallel it to reality. The logisitcs alone are staggering.

I sent my JW girlfriend flowers for her birthday this year. It was the first time since she joined up. I had the florist write on the card (for all to see...) "Enjoy YOUR DAY! Job 1:4."
She is homebound due to health problems so I wanted all her JW friends who visit to see the card and its significance. I don't know if they talked about it later but no one (I mean NO one) made any comments one way or the other while there. There was an elder who visited (at least one, maybe two) that didn't say anything, either.
There is one sanctimonious pioneer wench that I was just waiting for her to make some smart-ass, self-righteous comment. Nope.
I think I won this round. Unless they've marked her as bad association or something. So far there have been (seemingly) no repercussions. I've always thought (as do a lot of bible commentary writers) that the Job scripture was most definitely in regard to birthdays.

I started this after reading Jeanniebeanz's thread about reading the bible and it making her more skeptical. The same thing happened to me after reading it through. How could I or anyone have ever been so controlled in so many aspects of life by this fairy tale? Then the thought occured to me:
What if, in a society far less advanced and primitive, say, like the Israelites , someone took Aesop's fables and inflated them over time to the "inspired' status of the bible? Do you think that in hundreds or thousands of years people would be worshipping ants instead of grasshoppers for having such a good work ethic? Reciting other stories like the guy who lost his donkey off a bridge because he couldn't please all the people all the time and other such moralistic but obviously not "divinely inspired" tales?
If nothing else, I have to give the ancient Jews credit for starting something based on fear, ignorance, and superstition and it turning into a huge multi-national, multi-cultural belief system that has lasted for thousands of years! Even in our current enlightened society it still gets a whole lot of obedience and airtime (look at the pope's death).
Could Aesop have fared as well if the situation had presented itself?
