Similarly the WTS literature, though technically purchased through voluntary payment, may be deemed by a Judge to be "purchased". If so, I an enterprising bureaucrat may inquire about WTBTS profits and ask them to submit a rather hefty tax bill. Something to think about.
You could always say that you never donated money for the CD but instead for the World Wide Work. :) It would be their burdon to prove whether or not it was purchased.

should they be reported to the us government and, if so, for what since they claim the donations will be spent where it will 'do the most good'?
are they acting in a morally responsible manner by the way they are accepting donations for hurricane katrina disaster relief efforts?.
Isn't there some kind of law that governs donations made to a charitable cause? Isn't there a group that needs to verify that you collected this money for a specific cause and to verify that the money actually WENT to that cause? Otherwise ANYONE could sit outside of a Wal-Mart and hold out a can to collect money for huricanne victims and then just pocket it at the end of the day. Anyone that would give money with the intention of it going to a charitable cause but is being asked to alter the documentation is very naive and any group that uses a national disaster to garner more donations that will most definitley NOT be going to the victims should be held accountable to the highest degree. They want everyone to mark the donation as "World Wide Work" for a reason, people! So that they don't have to report it to any watchdog agency that makes sure that they aren't scamming people.

as i posted on another thread my convention starts today and i decided not to go, well yesterday i get two calls one from a freind that wanted to see if i would go with her so she would not have to go alone.

Lola, whether you fade gradually or leave all at once you will lose everyone anyway. Only you can really know what is best for you to do so I will just advice you to anylise your feelings about the religion itself, NOT your friends in the religion. You are in the religion because of the religion, not because of "The Friends". You have already seen how quickly they turn on you for missing a few meetings so you can see how conditional that friendship is. And be very thankful that you didn't accept that guy's offer for you to work for him because the minute you start slipping in meeting attendance he will hold your job hostage. I wonder how many people that go themselves into these situations ever successfully sued their JW employer for breaking labor laws like this. Taking that job will garauntee that everyone at the hall will know everything about your performance at the job, your salery, all of your personal details at work, not to mention that he will bring work up at the meetings and bring the meetings up at work. You will be in hell.
But anylise your feelings in the belief structure of the religion. If the policies and dogma go against how you feel it should be in your heart then leave it. Staying will only cause you stress and agony as you work against the very nature of your being. Anylise the actions of "The Friends" and elders and compare it to how they SHOULD be acting. If it's not right then that tells you the type of people you're dealing with.
Take a look at the proven scandals in the organization and look how the Society deals with it. You will find that it is most unchristian. And realise the fact that by staying in a religion that covers up illegal activities in the attempt to protect its name and public image you are thereby condoning those actions and choosing to associate those actions with YOUR good name. You will, in effect, share in their blood guilt just like they love to say how "Christendom" will all share in the blood guilt of false religion.
You will need to do some serious soul searching but I would advice you that, whatever your end results are, that you act upon what your heart tells you. NOT what these so called friends tell you. Good luck.

i have to say that generally the criticism on this board toward jws is over the top.. i personally have huge problems with the 'truth' right now in my life but i notice the ones who have literally nothing good to say about anything.. there are a lot of good witnesses and a lot of good doctrine and a lot of good motives among jws.. criticism fine, but jesus commended when due.. .
Good motives? Well, just because one fully believes in what one is saying doesn't make what they are saying The Truth and doesn't give one the right to try to convince others that what they believe is wrong.
Let's just say that they have motives and leave the "Good" part out of it.

at the meeting today, me and my family were sitting in the back.
i've been heavily emotional lately because of the katrina disaster and my temper and sadness and all emotions have just been on a rise lately.
well my dad was noticing that i was frowning so my father got sort of angry with me and demanded that i stop.
If your parents disown you for standing up for what you believe in then that tells you something about your parents. Don't twist it back on yourself and think that it would be your fault that they stopped loving you. If that were to happen it would be entirely their choice and it would really highlight the society's and their moral fiber. Good job in spilling out your heart.
On another note. If this is the Truth and God's only correct religion then why are there so many people, young and old, that have these strong internal feelings towards it that it eventually makes them snap? You never read about that during King David's time. Subconsciously they all know it's not the truth. It just effects people differently. For some like you, these little falsities just start eating away at your mind little by little and you keep trying to convince yourself that this is the truth but the problems and things you've seen just keep eating away more and more at you. It gets to the point where you can't hold back any more and you can't keep lying to yourself and you emotionally snap.
If this was really the truth then so many people wouldn't be going through this on a daily basis.
okay, we know all the gas won't dry up soon, but it sure is expensive.
i got to thinking, what would i do and what would others do if there simply wasn't any gas to buy?
myself, would it no longer be worth making payments on my home and moving to another one closer to work?
If all the gas dried up then we would have to become more self sufficient on walking or riding a bike. I only work 9 miles from home so riding a bike is do-able. In fact, to make it a little quicker and easier I am purchasing an electric motor for my bike so that I can get up to 25 MPH on it. It's battery powered and it'll got around 30 miles on a single charge. Then when I'm at work I can plug it in a recharge it or I can purchase a solar panel and have the sun recharge it.
We all have to adapt to our changing times or we're going to die. Survival of the fitest still applies.

he has stability issues himself with flip flopping back and forth between the "world" and the "truth".
After a few back and forth rants between both of us it has been revealed that there is apparrently an ongoing struggle to get people to rejoin the rank and file. This includes trying to lure inactives back to the hall with guilt. This is exactly what he has been doing and exactly what I've been guessing all along. He made some comment that it was his scriptural responsibility to try to get me back into the fold. I told him that he needs to worry about his own spiritual standing instead of concerning himself with those that could give a shit. Then he goes into personal insults which I then counter by pointing out his TRUE heart condition all along and why would I want to rejoin a group of people such as himself. He makes the following comment.
"How soon we forget what we've learned. It's like a man going to school to become a skilled doctor who has the ability to save lives but, upon graduation, goes out & gets a job as a janitor, using those same hands to clean toilets rather than to save lives. "
I reply with this.

That ended it. He said that he at leat tried and he was free from any blood guilt. I used that to point out that his intentions of getting me back in were nothing but self serving. He wasn't really interested in getting me back into the truth. He just wanted to rid himself of blood guilt. Every single thing that he has said has been in a self serving vein. Look at me. I'm holier than thou. I'm taking spiritual matters seriously and making God a priority in my life. IS EVERYBODY LOOKING!? Let me make a list of all of my virtues for you to marvel at. See how pure I am? Don't you wish you could come back to this? Isn't this alluring to you? And if you come back won't that make me look good to everyone in the hall?"
It really reminded me of Satan tempting Jesus with all the treasures of the world. This guy had his Livejournal username as "The Watchman". Presumtuous extreem! Now, after me putting him in his place he has changed it to "Weed em and Reap" and has a little quote under it saying "Save it for the Judge". If he's trying to get me to rejoin he's doing a hell of a job proving my points for me.
