Having It Both Ways?--A Defining Characteristic
by blondie ini was reading on another website and found this post.
the poster said i could post it here.
it shows why it is hard to reason with anyone in the organization.. when individuals leave the organization for conscience reasons, it is evidence that god is shepherding and protecting the flock by doing a sifting work.

The root of misogyny - men don't like mirrors
by DanTheMan inyou know, sometimes hearing just one little thing can change your whole outlook on something.
last night i was watching the movie "the big kahuna" (danny devito, kevin spacey).
the movie was more like a play, 95% of it was a dialogue between the 3 main characters - 3 industrial lubricant salesmen pondering some of the heavier things in life whilst trying to land the big sale (the big kahuna).

Dan the man said It hit home with me especially because I tend to be a bit of a woman hater, I must admit.
I am the opposite -- I think women are wonderul and I worship the ground they walk on - that is why to me the Taliban amongst other reasons are the scum of the earth - nearly as bad as child molesters

Who Wrote The Bible
by stillajwexelder ini have just finished reading for the 2nd time "who wrote the bible" by friedman and american professor but first published in london.
he gives solid evidence that the pentateuch was written by 4 writers who are called j, e, p and d --- and so on -- traditionally of course written by moses.
my question is 2-fold .

II woulkd add Who Wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls by Norman Golb -- interesting but a much more academic and difficult read -- Who Wrote The Bible is a much easier "racier' read -- very compelling just like COC --- one of these days I will do a post with my Top 20 reads but I am sure it has already been done

Was the Holy Spirit part of Jesus or a force controlled by God
by shotgun inthe account where the woman with the blood flow touched jesus outer garment and was cured interests me.. jesus felt the power leave him and looked to see who touched him.
if the holy spirit was an active force seperate and controlled by god why would jesus have felt a power drain.. if you consider most of jesus healings to be a placebo which only healed people who believed like present day faith healers do this account sheds a different perspective.. if you believe jesus was god and all powerful it seems strange that he would notice the insignicant power needed to stop a flow of blood considering the awesome displays of power which never seemed to bother him(calming a storm, replacing a severed ear, raising the dead, feeding thousands with basically nothing..although my mom could do that too).
what are your thoughts...yes you too mr canon...not too long though...ok...remember kiss

mmm -- you could argue this is part of the series on troubling trinity verses part x -- so hooberus, littletoe et al would be interested -- it was obviously controlled by both which would make Jesus divine which would argue for the Trinity -- which I disbelive with a great passion

Why There Will Never Be A Perfect World.
by Englishman ingeorge burns explained it so well in oh god!
part 2.. "you can't have a top without a bottom".. "you can't have sweet without sour".. "you can't have up without down".. "you get rid of sad and happy goes right out the door too".. so now we know why god doesn't want to make life perfect.
it's not natural!.

Xena -- even though it is French and I am not eating it in protest at the moment -- if I could eat Brie in the presence of someone as beautiful as you I am sure it would be a wonderful experience (by the way I am not trying to hit on you --I am just being honest)

Are you ever taken aback by what some here have said to you ?
by berylblue inas in ....you post something you feel is rather innocuous, or sincere, or perhaps revealing something rather private and honest and candid, and someone blows you away with a nasty comment?.
i am not speaking of heated debates.
if one participates in those, one expects to receive passionate replies which may sometimes hurt.

NO -- nobody here claims to be Gods sole unique channel -- and so they are all imperfect so I am not taken aback -- I am taken aback what Gods Sole Unique channel AKA the WTBTS says -- they are the ones that insult peoples intelligence

In Search of Christian Freedom
by berylblue infranz stated something in this mind-blowing book which was definitely true for me.. he stated (this is a poor paraphrase) that very early on during a "study", witnesses can easily show what's in the bible regarding god's name, the condition of the dead, living on paradise earth, etc.
once these are proven to a person's satisfaction, when the study moves on to more complicated matters, it is just easier to accept what isn't understood on the basis that so far, everything has seemed true.
by now, there is an emotional investment -and everything up until now seemed fine, so.....................................let's swallow it all, and what is too difficult to swallow comfortably (blood?

The order for me was CoC -- Then Gentile Times then ISOCFreedom and then The Sign of The Last Days --- Gentile Times for me was great but only knew about it because of Rays recommendation and bibliography in CoC --what struck me is I always knew the bit about earthquakes was wrong from my college education -- bu to see it in print from an ex-witness like CO Jonsson and mentioned by Ray was liberating -- not depressing -- And you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free -- wonderfully liberating -- I am just a hypocrite though as at the moment I remain a witness

1) Has anyone else read this book and/ or similar - and what did you think of it -- did it (or other) shake your faith - help make you agnostic?
2) What is your favored reading material of a religious/historical/philosophical nature now that you do not trust what the WTBTS publishes?
