recently, i ran into a bureaucratic state problem and then a similar issue with a corporation.

now, it can be argued that you can never really figure out exactly who is responsible for the mess.

it does no good to yell at a receptionist or company lackey who barely knows what you're talking about.. on the other hand, you can be an ex-jw and know exactly who is responsible.

I agree - here is a really stupid example - It is the reductio ad absurdio treatment to an argument. The Governing Body suddenly releases a WT article saying masturbation (or other ) is GOOD for you.

The JW response - PRAISE JAH.

If the GB sya something it is taken as law. So they are responsible. THE BUCK STOPS WITH THEM as HS Truman would say

"Youth book" said 97% of teenagers Masturbate...but none of them are Witnesses! Is this unrealistic?

"youth" book and "young people ask" admitts that 97% boys and 92% of girls masturbate but of course none of the holy decent witness teenagers would ever do such a thing and earn jehovahs anger!

how realistic is this?

for many jw's, they point to the gb as wonderful examples of zealous, humble, older men that are only serving jg for right and correct reasons.. unlike many of the preachers we see on tv, they are, and this is the important point, 'not in it for the money'.. of course we see them differently on this site, exposed many times over, as being self-serving hypocrites.. but if you want to win-over a jw doubter, this is one of the questions you have to answer.

"what's in it for the gb member?

why are they doing this if not for the money?".

The GB literally get worshipped and obeyed. If anyone of them wanted to give a talk in lets say - Sydney Australia - they would have their flight paid and hotels and get to live off the brothers. They can travel the world at somebody else's expense. Not too shabby if you ask me

during my life as jw i have studied many, many books of the wt at the weekly book study.. here you will find some of the books considered during the years with their publishing date:.

1955 new heavens, new hearth.

1961 from lost paradise to..... 1962 let your will be done on earth.

The Isaiah books were horrible p -the Daniel book was exciting but a huge joke -identifying the Ships of Kittim as British ships sitting of Cyprus before 1930 was just plain ludicrous and actually very funny.

Favorite book - The Greatest Man - you actaully were studying JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i used to hear it all of the time!

i was 24 when i was first appointed as an elder.

certain ones who were disillusioned with the "old guard" were really hoping i'd come on board and change the way the body of elders did things.

Yes - and to be truthful I have seen it happen . About 20 years ago there were about 5 elders appointed in two years - it did start changing things slowly. I noticed less rigidity -newer brothers being allowed to take the Memorial - a more balnced approach to Depression etc.

Did You Know A Lot Of "Very Intelligent" JWs?

in my lifetime of knowing jehovah's witnesses, i recognized very few as being extremely intelligent.

most seemed to just go along with the program.. i noticed we have a number of "very intelligent" exjws here..

minimus -you are so right. However, I am biased. In my opinion if you have above average intelligence - you start questioning. You do not accept that black is white. You challenge the Faithful and Discreet Slave.. Example

True loyal dub - -the FDS says black is white --ooohhhh isnt Jah wonderful.

Above average intelligence - the FDS says black is white - just a second - surely black is black and white is white.

Vast majority of dubs by definition are NOT college educated -
