Smoking is bad for you, christmas is pagan, drunkeness is bad for you but drinking in moderation is good for you; no such thing as hellfire, no such thing as the trinity --- er that is about it

Is there ANYTHING at all you think the borg was right about?
by BLISSISIGNORANCE ini'm not suggesting that the borg is right in itself.
but can you think of anything the borg taught that was actually beneficial and good?
just as an example: i use to be a smoker but when i started to study i gave up my 30 a day habit because i was told it was wrong.

HOW "TRUE" ARE JW HOURS ?
by josephus inas a jw i admit to "massaging" my hours nearly every month to keep up with the expected amount.. my brother never put in hir report for nearly 2 years.
i was amazed when i asked the secretary he told me "i allways put a few hours in if people forget" !!!
so my brother was a regular publisher despite not going out on service.. he was one man.

There have been other threads on this --hard to estimate -- my hours are certainly false --and I know of others -- and there is always the usuall -go on service -- get in the car -- go to MacDonalds for breakfast first -- eventually knock on your first door etc. etc. --- the figures are getting more meaninglesssand futile but to put a % on the accuracy is a difficult thing to do

What Things Used To Bother Your Conscience???
by minimus inwe were always being told that we must be careful not to "stumble" others.
we were instructed to think about the consciences of others.
was there anything that used to bother your conscience that now doesn't?

R JW REALLY THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE ON EARTH?????
by JT inrepost from norm--
ai had the opportunity today to go over this thread with a jw and they almost passed out , for this is what a number of them in their hall were discussing this pass sunday- the shear number of friends who are suffering from depression-
so i thought for the newer ones here it would be good to take a look at how the happiest folks on earth are not as happy as they claim to be

Depression, alcoholism, alcohol abuse, child abuse, cover ups --- all signs of a very UNHAPPY people to me -- -- if they were so happy why is the highest "revolving door religion" -- I could go on -- the truth is they are a very unhappy and unbalanced people

Ronald Reagan... an actor, he did not deny it he pulled the world economy out of recession and won the Cold War almost single handed (he had help from Margaret Thatcher) and the cold war was won without a single shot being fired -- now that is some achievement . It resulted in the fall of the Berlin Wall -- more freedom in the East which includes religious freedom -- way to go Ronnie

Are there any young folks who are sincere JWs?
by Spudinator ini'm closer to middle-age so that is why the question is posed; so those that are younger or really know some younger jws very well can give an older codger some insight.. i hear a lot of grumbling among those of my generation that the new kids just don't seem to get it.
("it" being the "truth.
") is this really the case for the vast majority?

I have heard a few elders admit the demographics of the organization is one of an aging organization -- not as many young ones so the avearge age is creeping up -- remember it is the younger ones who tend to be familiar with the Internet/computers --and as can be seen from many other threads -- the Internet is a big threat to the WTBTS -- interesting times are ahead

Thread Motivation
by StinkyPantz inever wonder why certain people start certain threads?
i mean, sure the quizzes are sometimes fun, the "what did you eat for breakfast?
" threads can be participated by all; but do people actually sit around wondering what your zip code is?.

It is refreshing to get other opinions which we do NOTget in the WTBTS
