Elders - Law Enforcers or Loving
by Jim Dee inthey don't care
they enforce the rules without compassion, dogma without dignity and punish with glee - it keeps the others in line.
they have total control without guideline or being accountable to anyone.

Re: Has The Internet REALLY Hurt Jehovah's Witnesses?
Why would there be so many talks and so many KM inserts and magazine articles about the Internet if it was not hurting -- of course it is affecting the WTBTS -- at the Protestant reformation the printing press (recently invented) hurt the Roman Catholic Church because information spread a whole lot faster -- now the minute there is anything nasty such as paedophile/UN Scandal et al -- it is around the world instantly - an even if a loyal JW does not see it a lurker will and that info gets around the congregations -- I love the internet -- freedom of information and thought -- at one time you had to approach a book publisher to get your thoughts in print -- now no longer -- any one with a PC can get their thoughts across in print/ LONG LIVE THE INTERNET - and may it cause change in Brooklyn

Is a University or College education still frowned upon today?
by Richie inafter about 8 months of "silence", i took the initiative to visit my daughter, who is an active jw - i wanted to see her, as i bought some good nutritional supplements which i wanted to give to her for her children.
she was kind but somewhat distant - we embraced each other and then talked a little bit about non-essential things.
she showed me my granddaughter, who is about 10 months old - very cute and so pretty.

YES - not frowned on like it once was -- I know many who now do some college

Avoiding df by threatening suicide!
by avishai ini have heard the rumor more than once that people have avoided df'ing by threatening to kill themselves if they are df'd.
has anyone else heard of this?

There is very little genuine love in the org -- why should a threat of suicide move them to compassion

I predict bold new changes in JW preaching work..want to bet me? :-)
by Mindchild inive decided to post something i have been thinking about for quite some time now.
to keep things short and sweet: i predict revolutionary changes in jw policy regarding door-to-door activity and the means of spreading their memeplex (belief system.
here is a list of the changes i feel most confident about:

The last time they were truly innovative was with The PhotoDrama of Creation -- since then all new technology has been Satans tool -- the internet is satans tool - -I once heard an illustration a couple of years ago -- Brothers -- why do you think it is Called The World Wide Web -- becasue it is like a spiders web that catches a fly -- and the web is out there to catch you dear brothers -- so no - -what you propose will not happen

"Man was created in Gods image"
by Dansk inok, we've all read/heard this one before and i've asked a question on someone's thread a long time ago that just disappeared.
by giving the topic its own thread i'm hoping someone can give me the definitive answer............(but i'm not holding my breath!)..
right, my point is, if we are made in god's image that means we reflect his (good) qualities.

I am actually starting to get so cynical that I think the writers of the bible made God in man's image

HOW "TRUE" ARE JW HOURS ?
by josephus inas a jw i admit to "massaging" my hours nearly every month to keep up with the expected amount.. my brother never put in hir report for nearly 2 years.
i was amazed when i asked the secretary he told me "i allways put a few hours in if people forget" !!!
so my brother was a regular publisher despite not going out on service.. he was one man.

sanfransiscojim says I think we should all count the hours spent on this board and report them to the Society.
What a great idea -- I will start putting this time in on my service slip each month -- thanks for the tip
