Dear, dear dadalus: I have read your posting on your disassociation. And I feel for you. Maybe some anger management counseling would help? I know a lot of academicians but you are more caustic and cynical than most of them! You respond to my comments as if they were directed at you. Maybe I hit a nerve. Do you feel the need to justify what you did? I think you handled yourself with that heartless bunch well. I do think you are a bit emotional and you appear to crave the pity of us all. And that you have from me --in spades! Yours with tears in my eyes, Maverick

My son's letter of disassociation
by Titanic inmy son (18) has given his letter of disassociation to the elders , and it will be announced tomorrow night.i disassociated myself last year but i have never encouraged my son to do so.
he has not done it earlier for personal reasons, though he would have liked to as he really hates them even more than me, and believe me he has very good reasons.
my son was one of the most active young ones in the congregation..he gave so much for this organization...so it was unbelievable the way he was treated in time of test.what an example of ungratefulness and a total lack of love on the part of the jw.

Are there only two ways out of the WT World?
by Maverick inwe are told we can quit (dissassociate) or get kicked out ( dissfellowshipped), but are these the only options we have?
while you cannot stop people from acting a certain way around you there may be a way to take to power away from the society and give it back to the people who love you and know it their hearts that shunning in unloving.

Dear dadalus: I am impressed with your response. I will say that I was considering disassociating myself for some time, but after a lot of careful thought and with the help of some very loving and loyal friends I choose the nullification. I think you have misinterpreted my feelings on disassociation. I am not against it, get out any way you can! Sending a poorly written, angry or factually erroneous letter does not help the reader of the letter see the writers side. A letter is best that serves both the sender and the receiver. Don't you agree? I come by my user name quite honestly, I am paid very well for coming up with innovative problem solving techniques. And your are quite right when you say that in any case the person will be shunned. I think the nullification makes it easier for the slaves to overide this. And that benefits everyone. Each one of us has to decide what serves him best. I want to leave the door open for the slaves. Many a person I had issues with has proven to be a valuable ally. I hope this to be the case with the people I still love who are now enslaved to this apostasy. Yours, Maverick

Well dadalus, I got more reaction out of you that the whole of the J-dud Society. At Last, I pissed someone off. As for your relative who DA'ed, if it worked for her fine. I never had to meet with anyone. They never called or announced anything from the platform. Even if they wanted to meet with me the letter tells them not to. And the "no response" portion places an assumption of compliance. So, no time on my part was taken in this action outside the mass mailout. And, yes this letter would work if you felt that you were going to be disfellowshipped and wanted to head them off at the pass. What legal fees? Outlay so far $0.00. As for your mother-in-law or those who chose a different path being weak( your words not mine), or talkers, again a non issue as the letter was not an option for them since it wasn't even available to them yet. As for being judgmental are we talking about you or me--I forget??

WT Squelches Congrefational Address Lists
by Room 215 infor anyone who doubts that paranoia amongst the denizens of dubdom is greater than ever, consider this: in years past jws used to distribute copies of phone/address lists of the members of the congregation for the convenience of the friends, and these were periodically updated.. lately in my area, however, requests for a current list were refused, with the explanation that it would be ``imprudent to keep such a list, as it would compromise the brothers' /sisters' identities were it to fall into the wrong hands."".
is this ban now oganization-wide or just a local phenomenon?
i would suspect the former.

The same thing happened here on the West Coast of Fla. I sent out a Baptism Nullification letter (check it out in the friends forum) to everyone I knew and had a hard time rounding up a lot of the Elders addresses. Turns out they are discouraged from listing them in the Telephone Book. As I was a de facto member of the servant body for 16 years I had a number of old lists. But the local groups are told not to put together phone lists anymore to "protect the privacy of the members". In this way a person who wants to share his or her feelings will have to go to the local brothers and this helps to contain any potential problems. Although many Elderets still put these lists together for gossip purposes. Maverick

Well, I see the path of least resistance seems to be the order of the day here. The fade-aways and those who want the emotional satisfaction of venting in a letter of disassociation are offered encouragement. There are three kinds of people in this world, Doers, Talkers and Critics. A lot of time is spend on non-issues, pity parties and trivia. I guess the Star Wars and Star Trek crowd like to sit and talk shop. But are there any adult people out there in J-dud limbo-land? If so let's hear from you. Still standing, Maverick

What you may have felt is a little nostalgia. In Steve Hassan book on Mind Control (he does not talk about the J-duds) he mentions an important technique used by these groups. It is called the "honeymoon". When a person first comes in he or she is greeted and paid a great deal of attention. Some members may even "adopt" the new one and befriend that one. This feeling of warmth and apparent love can be deeply felt and imprinted on the new one. I still have fond memories of my first year of coming to the Hall. And that is reinforced at the Assemblies and Conventions. Think about this. How many people at this gathering knew you and your status? Were you able to walk among them freely? How will you be treated at the local level? Remember this, There is a difference between Religion and Worship. Maverick

You bring up many valid points and I am sure you have seen the correction about Russell/Rutherford. But are you sure you want to take this tact? There may be another option. Check out the Baptism Nullification letter in this forum. You could send that Letter to the Society and with some minor changes send the other letter to not just to the Elders you addressed it to but to everyone who knows you. If you take out any mention of dissassociation they will not be able to view you that way. The advantage is that any "thinking" Witnesses who are seen talking to you cannot be officially punished and if the Elders gossip about you they leave themselves open to be sued for slander. Take the stick out of their hands. You do not have to play by their rules. You are not the apostate. Are you claiming to be Gods sole channel on Earth? Are you claiming that loyalty to you is proof of loyalty to God? Are you usurping Christ as mediator between mankind and God? Of course not. You are only "guilty" of using the brain God gave you. Yours, Maverick

He played their game set up by their rules and he forfeited. Yes, he probably got some satisfaction out of venting but that was it. He is near powerless now. No doubt they view baptism nullification as the worst form of apostasy. But they would be deprived of the satisfaction of announcing it to the friends. They then would have to resort to gossip. And in time he would be forgotten and would feel no obligation to tell anyone of his past. He could do real damage then if he wanted. But what is done is done and hopefully he will be able to deprogram himself of the exit phobias and other trash that the GB install in the membership and develope a relationship with the True God and His Son. After all, there is a difference between religion and worship. Maverick

Apostates getting smarter?
by freedom96 inback before the internet, jw's who left, either df'd or da'd had nothing to rely on.
they didn't have the communication with others, nor did they have access that they now have with the internet.
now, anyone can log on, even jw's, and see sites like this one, that talk about the real truth.

I am sorry, when I looked at the title, Silly Me , I thought you were referring to the Governing Body in Brooklyn when you asked if the Apostates were getting smarter! We are not the apostates. Don't think like that . Are you willing to except their label? Are any of YOU trying to usurp Jesus as mediator? Are any of YOU inserting loyalty to YOU as proof of loyalty to God? Am I the only one in denial here? I deny that I am an enemy of God! I deny the GB of ANY authority over me. I deny them the power to tell me what consitutes right worship to God! Remember this, there is a difference between religion and worship! And I put my money were my mouth is, check out the Baptism Nullification letter in this forum. On the front line, Maverick.
