  I have an ex-wife that was much like Paris. When we seperated, she went kind of crazy. She looked somewhat like Nicole Richie and she hung around another girl that really tried to look like Paris. People would call them Paris and Nicole. She would stay out all night partying, every night. She'd do drugs, all of them, all the time. She'd strip in dance clubs, she'd pass out in strip clubs, she'd go to parties that would turn into drug induced orgies, she'd end up in people's beds where she wouldn't remember how she got there or who they were. She was also an alcoholic.

  And from what I saw of her, you can definitely be sick in jail if you are an addict. She got caught smoking crack cocaine in the parking lot of a club and was thrown in jail for a few days before bail money was posted. She went through some major withdrawls while she was sitting in jail. She spent most of the 4 days she was there sweating, shaking, pale, throwing up almost all the food that she was given. So if Paris is an addict or an alcoholic, which is very possible, she could actually be sick. Of course, going back home would allow her to get her fix.

  As for my ex-wife, other than the initial jail time that she spent after getting caught with crack-cocaine, she wasn't sentenced to anymore time in jail and she was a normal non-celebrity human.

  I hate to be a killjoy because I'm not a big fan of Hilton-Lohan-Richie brat pack, but in reality most normal everyday people that get caught driving on a suspended license get from 0 to 3 days in jail. I've had several friends that have been caught driving with suspended licenses because they'd had it revoked on drunk driving charges, just like her. And most of them just received a fine and probation without any days in jail and none of them spent more than 3 days in jail.

  And if that's the norm, then the time that Paris was sentenced to was overkill because the judge didn't like her and was serving her with an abnormally long sentence because he could. And just because someone is disliked and seemingly deserves it for all the things she has done but hasn't been caught for, doesn't mean she shouldn't be treated like everyone else would in the same situation.

  I can relate. I don't mean to be mean or unkind but when I see almost anyone I know someplace where I have my mind set that I'm there to get in, get what I need, and get out. I try to veer away from them. They will have to be a very good friend for me to want to sidestep my plans to talk with them. I too, think that I'm built in a rather anti-social way.

  After my first wife and I broke up, I had to give it a real effort to go out and socialize. I really didn't like it at first. I seriously didn't know how to talk to people, to make interesting conversation, or how to act around women. I had to hang out with a group of guys for awhile to get back into the swing of being social. I did get into a routine and then it wasn't so bad. Option 1) Go to work, come home, fix myself dinner, and work out, or option 2) go out to the bars and meet up with some aquantances and meet some women. During that stint I met the person who became my new wife. And I thought, whew, that's over. Now I don't have to go out so much.

  But she's a good thing for me, she makes sure that I answer my cell phone when it rings because if she's not there and I hear it ring, I won't answer it 75% of the time. She's also there to make sure that I keep up with my friends. And I really do love her for it, because when I'm out with my friends I really do enjoy myself. But I think I'm the weird kind of person that would have no trouble travelling the world alone, not having any friends except for my dogs, and being pretty much a loner in the world. Luckily I have my wife to make sure that I don't become a hermit. I've just never gotten that lonely feeling that people say they get when they aren't around friends and loved ones. I guess I do a fairly good job entertaining myself.

I've been trying to find the pros to gun control but I'm having a hard time finding any articles about countries that have had any real reduction in crime from banning guns. Can anyone point me to an article that shows a reduction in crime from a gun ban that has happened somewhere in the world. My dad was telling me about Australia's rise in crime after their gun control law and I was trying to find an article to refute what he was telling me, because I like to show him when he's wrong :). So far I keep reading articles like the one above, about rises in crime in countries that have had some sort of gun ban. I'm sure there is an opposing view out there with good data.

  I took a sociology class in college that was about race relations years ago. The Professor was a middle aged white woman that really seemed to hate her own race. She was always ragging on white people and apologizing to the few black students in the class for the past actions of her white ancestors.

  She showed us all a video one day of several white and black people getting together in a study group. Both races were middle aged males. They were both asked basic questions, like do you consider yourself racist. The white guys all said, "no, of course not." Some said they had black friends and such. The black guys said that they as black individuals could only be the object of racism and could not be racist because of their skin color. The black men all agreed that all the white men in the room were racist and the white men were visibly scared to make an issue of it. The black men were yelling at the white men, telling them that their ancestors had done this to the black race and it was on them to do something about it to make it right. The white guys sat there and wouldn't argue back, just saying that they didn't think that what their ancestors did in previous generations should affect the way people view them today. One of the black guys jumped up and threw his chair accross the floor and yelled that he was so mad that these white guys just didn't get it and he felt like hitting one of them. After the video was over, the proffesor asked us what we thought. The white students didn't really understand, none of us thought we were racist, and didn't think we should be judged on things we had no control over. The black students said they completely understood the black guys outrage on the video, and it was obvious that white people just couldn't get it.

  I stated that I think it's all an eyesight problem. Without eyesight, words and race would mean nothing because we wouldn't be able to perceive the difference between white, black, brown, red, or yellow. So if everyone just gouged the old eyeballs out we could forget about this race stuff and live in peace. Oh, except for religion of course.

  this statement was often echeod to me during my formative years.

  i remember my very first day of elementary school (stateside) at the age of 4. my parents were flustered because they couldn't believe they actually had to start their only child into public school to begin with; after all, the end was right around the corner!

  this was 1984, the year the first apple mac was introduced, 80's music was loud and in your face, the delorean was cool, and miami vice was just in production.

  You know it occured to me that JW's telling their kids that they'll be in the New System before they're out of school is very similar, albeit more harmful, to something that JW's demonize the "world" for doing. Telling their kids that Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny are real. Witnesses might not realize it, but getting their kids hopes up about an upcoming paradise that will be here just around the corner is most likely much more harmful than making them believe in make-believe creatures and people during their younger years.

  For women: your view of strip clubs

  The strip clubs in my area aren't bad. I havent' gone to any of them in awhile. But some years ago, right after my ex-wife left and started working at a strip club herself, I started going once a week of so with my some of my friends. If you got there at around 6pm, there was no cover charge and you could get quarter beers until 8pm. I live in a college town and most of the girls were college girls trying to make a few extra bucks and I even dated a couple of them, one of them being an ex-JW. Those relationships didn't amount to much, but were fun at the time.

  I don't have much of a desire to go to strip clubs anymore and my new wife isn't really into that sort of thing, but she doesn't mind if I go every once in awhile if I want to hang out with my friends. And I really wouldn't mind at all if she wanted to go to a male strip club. Trust is a good thing.

  Changing your diet - meat, dairy, sugar

  i have just finished reading 'confessions of a kamikaze cowboy' by dirk benedict.

  in the book he talks about how 'macrobiotics' (exclusion of meat, sugar, dairy among others) helped improve his health and fight cancer.

  a lot of what he says about food resonates with me, so im curious.

  I've been eating a bit better this year. Harldy any red meat, a couple of servings of fish a week, chicken, plenty of green veggies and fruits like bananas and apricots and nuts like almonds and peanuts. I haven't cut out cheese and milk and I don't think I will.

  I've been trying to get back into a work-out schedule over the past couple of weeks and I can see a change in my body and I feel a lot stronger. But I'm still in the beginning stages, so I feel sore and a little more tired than I think I should. Maybe I need more protein.

  What Naughty Things Did You Know Of That Went On In Your Hall?

  as an elder, i knew a lot of things that happened in the congregation, including "secret sins".

  what i also knew was that some persons were quite good at being sneaky----especially the teens.

  years after my daughter stopped hanging around certain friends and she was in her 20's, she told me little juicy tidbits of what some of her best friends regularly got away with.

  Naughty things. Well, I guess I was kind of naughty, but not nearly naughty enough. I passed up so many chances with attractive witness girls because I was trying to be a good witness boy. I had many supposedly good witness girls want to help me lose my virginity. But alas, I kept it until 19 and when I did finally have sex with a witness girl, I felt horrible and prayed over and over and thought I was going to die. Eventually I told on myself, and got DF'd. My best witness buds all moved in together, at 19 years old, while I was DF'd and started smoking a lot of pot and doing shrooms and drinking every night. Some were having sex, but still, most wouldn't talk to me because I was DF'd. The only one who wasn't a hypocrite and was willing to talk to me even when I was DF'd is still one of my best friends. The others, I haven't seen in years. I hear they're elders now.
