I found some of my old WT books while doing some spring cleaning, and I just dumped them in the trash with the rest of the garbage.

How did you brutally destroy your WT publications?
by Nosferatu inthe only wt publication i brutally destroyed was a brand new copy of the revalation book.
i was so frustrated with the religion that i ripped the goddam thing into a hundred pieces.
it was a great way to take my anger out on it.. years later when i was dating this one girl, she had a copy of that same stupid book.

I haven't noticed that UU memeber are rejected by most of society either. I see many well-adjusted, educated, intelligent people there. I see many there who are thought of as upstanding in the community and looked up to. I know of at least one politician who is a member there and highly respected in the community. As for myself, I am well liked by most people within and outside of the church.
The only way that I or many others would be thought of as an "outsider" is due to religious beliefs or lack of them. I'm an agnostic, and this is the Bible Belt. I don't even think that would be a real problem though because I don't discuss religioun with my assiciates or friends outside the church. It's just not a big deal.

I started attending a UU church a few months ago, and I very impressed with it. I find the people non-judgemental, friendly, open and caring. It seems everyone is involved in some kind of cause - environmental, pro-choice rights, pro-gay rights, helping the homeless etc. They really seem to care deeply about people and their rights. I've joined several groups there: environmental group, non-theist group, movie group, book group. The discussions are enlightening and thought provoking. Questioning and disagreeing is not only welcome but par for the course for being a Unitarian, but I have never seen a heated argument there. They treat one another with respect. It's amazing to me to see agnostics, athiests, wiccans, christians, jews, new agers, etc. exist in the same group with harmony and understanding. No one tries to change anyone's views. Fantastic!
Our minister is female and engaged to be married to another member of the church next month. I feel that I belong there, and I am accepted and liked for who I am. I feel comfortable when I disagree or question anything said there. It's silly, but it feels as if I have always been a Unitarian in my heart but never knew it until now. It feels like I have come home. Sappy but true.

What are Americans taught about U.S and what do you really believe?
by sleepy injust wondering what exactly americans (u.s.a) are taught about their country in school .do you really salute a flag, do you swear allegiance to the country.
are you taught that you fought for freedom, and that america is the land of the free, etc etc?
do you actually believe what you are taught?

I remember way back in the 70's when I was in school and the whole school recited the Pledge of Allegiance (before and after me being a JW) that most people said the words but didn't really pay that much attention to it. They just wanted to get it over with to get back to passing notes and talking about the last football game. lol You just don't really think about it that much.
People here in the US just don't go around with their hand over their hearts all the time thinking about what a wonderful country we have. lol I think that people do get defensive when they preceive others as trashing us though. I guess some feel that a boundry is being crossed like when when someone says that your kid is ugly or something or that your favorite football team has no talent. It pisses people off.
I think E-man's comment about a lot of this political bickering being largly cultural is a valid point. If you lived here, you would understand people's reactions. On the other hand, if we lived in the UK, for example, we would probably not understand the silly Americans' reactions. make sense? That's the way I see it anyhow.

My son and another cult
by edge3 insadly i feel like my son is moving toward another paranoid cult like group.
after extracting him, his mom and myself from the jw's 12 years ago my son is now exposed to and possibly buying into another bazzare belief system.
after our divorce, his mother remarried to a guy who believes all sorts of conspiracy theories such as : .

Edge,
One place where you'll probably find the information that you're looking for is at rickross.com They list and have information on hundreds of cults. There's also a message board there where you can post your questions as well.
Good luck,
Rita

Welcome LadyExWay!
Good to see you here. I've read some about the group you were associated with at the Rick Ross site. Wow! There are some similarities between the Way group and the JW's (the two are cults). I hope that you will find your time spent here enlightening and rewarding.

JWs--cult or am i just bitter?
by sinamongurl inafter reading many experiences and comments on the board, i have begun to have questions.
questions that i really didnt know i until i read them.
as a recently df'd person, i am still struggling with whether jws are really a cult or is it just that im bitter for being torn away from the only thing that i knew, where i had friends that i thought loved me.

I'm so sorry that you're have a hard time right now. Things will get better; I promise.
Yes, the JW's are a cult. As for being bitter, I think it's normal to be bitter after all the crap they put us through. Most people are bitter after experiencing abuse. The key is to work through all of that, and that takes time and a lot of sorting out.
Talking about your experiences relieves the bitterness and anger. You're in the right place.
Hugs,
Rita
