"strange angel, a drama series created by mark heyman (black swan, the wrestler) and based on george pendle's book of the same name, explores the dramatic intersection between genius and madness, science and science fiction.. the story follows the life of jack parsons, a mysterious and brilliant man in 1930s los angeles, who by day helps birth the entirely unknown discipline of american rocketry, and by night is a performer of sex magick rituals and a disciple to occultist aleister crowley.".
the jet propulsion laboratory is derived from jack parson's initials.

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory is derived from Jack Parson's initials. While researching Jack Parsons, I found a book called Sex and Rockets. It specifically mentions Charles Taze Russell.
Page 9 of this book says this: "Charles Taze Russell, founder of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, announced that the apocalypse would begin on October 2 — coincidentally or synchronistically, the very day Marvel Whiteside Parsons [who would later, as Jack Parsons, call himself the AntiChrist] emerged from his mother’s womb, or from even darker places, and began to investigate and meddle with this planet. (https://rawilson.wordpress.com/2007/06/20/sex-and-rockets/)"
In an ominous coincidence, Charles Taze Russell, whose "Russellites" now call themselves the Jehovah's Witnesses, predicted the end of the world would happen on October 2, 1914, the day of John Parson's birth, and just a couple of months after the start of World War I. When Russell announced to his congregation in Brooklyn, New York, that the end had begin, he meant the finale was not an instantaenous end to all things, but rather the beginnign of the end as outlined in the Book of Revelation - the appearance of the Antichrist and the harlot, Babylon the Great, being two of the key events. It is ironic that John Parsons, who would later attempt to incarnare Babylon and who would also sign an oath stating that he was the Antichrist, was born the very day of Russell's eschatological event.
The book Angels & Maggots written by Nathan Neuharth says: "Jack Parsons A.K.A. John Whiteside Parsons A.K.A. Marvel Parsons was born on October 2, 1914. This was the date Charles Taze Russell, founder of the Jehovah's Witnesses, predicted that the end of the world would happen."

I recently watched an "out there" documentary about UFOs etc and the narrtor made a connection between Charles Russell's prophecy and the birth of Jack Parsons.
here is one thing that really annoys me.. i live opposite a large hospital.
there is a pedestrian crossing connecting the hospital to the other side of the road.
it is at the end of the crossing that the dubs have their literature cart.
Here is one thing that really annoys me.
I live opposite a large hospital. There is a pedestrian crossing connecting the hospital to the other side of the road. It is at the end of the crossing that the dubs have their literature cart. They are within spitting distance of the hospital entrance. There they were last week at it again, this time, the featured magazine was "Will Suffering Ever End?"
For me, there are only reasons why people go to hospital. They are sick or they are visiting someone who is sick. I hear a third option. People work there.
But for the first two reasons I mentioned, I think it is very inappropriate for the witnesses to be showing their "Will Suffering End" magazine so prominently to hospital visitors.
Suggestions? Could I contact hospital management and ask that they leave or go somewhere else less prominent?
yesterday i drove passed a town a couple of hours from my home and saw this kh under construction.
this is the first new design kh i've seen in washington state even though i would think by now another one or two have been built.
maybe not with their financial situation being the way it is.
Maybe the drive by is where they get their territory cards?
the latest trend seems to be that you can't go to any store without being asked for money.. no, not the money for the things you went in there to purchase, extra money for the store to donate to charity.. yes, that's right, the big-name stores, often making $millions in profits, ask you to give them extra money so that they can give it to charity and get some publicity about how awesome they are so that they'll look good to their customers, like, erm, you.. it seems to have ramped up more in the last year or so and frankly, it pisses me off.
if i want to donate to some cause, i'll give the money straight to them.
i hate that it puts people on the spot to guilt them into donating and imagine some people on a tight budget may give even when they can't really afford it.. often you don't know what the charities really are (it's vague like "to help children") or how the money will be spent or even how much will go on the people it's supposedly to help (charity is a multi $billion industry, some just exist to pay themselves).. so what to do?
Interesting observations Simon.
I am seeing more requests for donations at the electronic terminals. You swipe your card and it asks you if you want to make a donation to "whatever."
One always has the option to refuse. I also know that there are costs involved in doing this, namely the interchange fee that is charged to the Visa/Mastercard processor.
How much of the fee is used to cover admin costs I have no idea.

most jws are familiar with the scripture at matthew 24:5: "for many will come in my name, saying, ‘i am the christ,’ and they will lead many astray.".
it is implied that people would come in jesus' name declaring that they were christ - but could there be another view on this scripture?
could this also mean that jesus said many would come in his name saying he is christ?.
Half banana,
Thanks very much for your comment and insights. I will have a look at those books you suggested.
now that we have stepped away from the jw faith, how do you feel about the bible itself?.
what about those awkward sections of scripture?
how did you rationalise or justify those sections?.

That's hilarious! Wasn;t King Eglon one of the Rephaim?
