I would bring all the troops back home. I would close all bases outside of the US, I would cut the military budget by at least 50% and spend that money on social programs (mainly education) and balancing the budget. I would end all embargos except weapons embargos. I would end the joke we call "war on drugs" and decriminalize drugs. I would forgive the loans of all "third world" countries. I would create a non-profit. gov't funded media outlet who did not have to answer to the gov't. I would change the electoral college system and institute radical campaign finance reform. I would repeal the homeland security act. i would open up the mexican border and grant amnesty to all "illegal" aliens. i would decrease the power of the president and make congress the strongest branch of govt. i would implement a universal healthcare system paid for with all the military money we wont be spending. ok i got carried away (but i could go on forever) and i know that the president doesnt have the power to just do most of these things but it was a fun exercise in wishful thinking.

I tend to not post on these topics because my views are so far left of the majority of posters and I find it silly to try to argue my position with anyone. After all one thing I think we all agree on is that we have the right to believe whatever we want.
That being said the fact that the majority of congress voted in favor of war or whatever means absolutely nothing. In the current climate it is political suicide to vote otherwise, or so it seems... (It will be interesting if this war becomes "unpopular" what kind of spin all the lemmings in congress will try to put on their vote to save their necks)
The polls that state Americans are in favor of the war have to be taken with a grain of salt as does anything else that is reported in the mass media. 90% propaganda, 9.9% half truths
OK go ahead and take your shots if you must. BTW I am active duty US military

JW's Should Not Wear Too Much Makeup Or Baggy Clothing Per New KM
by minimus inif you weren't quite sure how jehovah god expects you to dress, the april 2003 km helps us to see his viewpoint.
"well-arranged dress shows reverence for god" is the article that assists us to know god's feelings on these matters.
i will give you some quotes from the article: "soon we will have the privilege of being jehovah's guests at the 2003 ' give god glory' disctrict convention.

Thats very funny, it almost seems as if they come up with these rules just for the sake of having control and to keep the dangerous youth in check.
It also reflects the elitist attitude of the JW's. Many people can't afford to get tailor made suits and just get whatever is available at goodwill regardless of the style. Can you imagine Jesus kicking someone out of the temple for wearinga worldly outfit?

How BIG was YOUR JW book-bag?
by Scully inwhen i was replying to nicolas' question in another thread, i used the following scripture to show why jws are always so tired:"the scribes and the pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of moses.
therefore all the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but do not perform.
they bind up heavy loads and put them upon the shoulders of men, but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their finger.

I remember my parents would buy me a nice new bag every few years and I would floss it at the hall but eventually I decided that it was uncool to carry a stupid breifcase and just brought a bible and the wt to the meeting, made me look "weak", i know, but i liked that aspect.

The WTS Lie That Ensnared Me!
by ISP in*** tr chap.
11 pp.
the bible speaks of the time in which we are living as the last days or the time of the end.

I know this is what ensnared my father. I wish I could debate with him about it but bringing that up would be relationship suicide so I just the light gets clearer for him. (and the rest of my family but my father is definitely the glue that keeps them all in the org, if he left their whole belief system would be devestated)

I have tons of memories like that. I cant remember specific conversations but I remember how my family and other JWs would see something on TV about evolution or some other scientific FACT that goes against JW teaching and they would all laugh at how dumb and naive worldly people were. Ironic huh!

My two little babies, my goals in life. I am not a spiritual person so I don't worry about pleasing any god or anything like that. I dont believe we just have one shot but I guess I try to live as if I do cause i really have no idea. (which is why it burns me that JW's didnt let me have a normal childhood.. ok that was random)

Misogyny----anyone here guilty?
by Tatiana inafter reading the post on how to "treat your husband," i'd like to know if any men here actually feel this way about women.
everyone jokes around about male/female relationships, but how many really think women are inferior?
i know from some serious posts i've read here, that a few of the men must have really been hurt by someone.

I am a bit old fashioned I guess in that i think that it is my responsibility to provide for my family however I have no problem with my wife pursuing a career of her own. We share the housework, although right now she is a stay at home mom since she is nursing our baby and so she does most of the housework with the exchange that I'm in charge of the baby when I'm home.
