the christian denomination jehovah's witnesses has its headquarters in new york and claims 6 million members around the world.

I agree, a person should be free to not be proselytized against, but messing with religious freedoms is a slippery slope. The Russian Orthodox church would love to also turn its attention, I am sure, to Baptists, Buddhists, and other groups that have started to have increased membership in their areas.

Heh,, just send the JW's down to Chechnya. Promise to fund their disciplemaking work down in Grozny. It's a win-win situation for the Russkies. The JW's are duty bound to take the bait. They'll either get beheaded by Chechen rebles, or convert them all into JoHos, forcing them to become a nation of peaceable floor cleaners.

They cant cut out distict assemblies altogether, because it is the prime instigator of the JW mating ritual, also it gives witnesses a feeling of solidarity. They must have new witnesses and they can only do that by getting witnesses to marry other witnesses.

Reagan warned of this sort of thing to Gorbechev. He specifically stated that liberty would have to be understood an an inherent right in Russia, and not something that could be doled out by the government at a whim.

But along came Putin, with Bush hovering ike an obedient puppy at his heels. Sometimes I wake up, turn on the news, and I really think I've been having a bad dream for the last few years. I don't mind seeing the Watchtower organization take a hit, but not at the expensive of anyone's liberty. Rights are inherent, or they are not rights at all, just noblesse oblige.

I'm finished with voting for Republicans and Democrats, unless they are a candidate that really appeals to me on character alone. So I will "waste my vote" as some say, and vote indepentant.

Here is an analogy I've heared used. You are convicted of murder and sentenced to be executed. You have three options: a 49% chance of being lethally injected, a 50% chance of being electrocuted, or a 1% chance of being set free. You have the option to pick which you want and let chance decide if you actually attain it. Would you pick lethal injection because you are pretty sure you're going to die anyway, and it sounds nicer then frying in a chair, or would you take the odds on and try to live.

Would you marry not for love but for a visa?

a friend of mine was approached by a asian family living here in the u.s. that wants to get a family member, a 18 year girl living in the south east asia region here to america.

they want my friend to get married to this girl for a year or two so she can eventually become an american citizen.

the family living here has offered to pay for all expenses; my friends air ticket over there and back along with any other expenses incurred plus a lump sum payment upon her successful immigration here to the u.s. my friend is maybe considering it but he hasn't even seen a picture of the girl yet and he is somewhat older(about 9 year difference) than the girl.. now if they fall in love or consemate the relationship, that's totally up in the air and i guess open to bargaining and my friend would totally be free to get a divorce once the girl gets to the u.s. i did ask some of my friends what they thought, and everyone pretty much said no.

The Russian mafia in particular has been very good at organizing mail-order brides to scam american men. The suitors usually turn to Russia because I supose they have a racial preference. Also the woemn are quite often well educated, speak a little English, and so might seem easier to integrate into white American domestic life. Plus pretty women speaking with a Russian accent are just so darned sexy. (until the effects of smoking 3 packs of Belomor Kanal a day catches up)

I digress. A lot of them are high class hookers, etcetera with mob connections. The mafia owned front companies, or else has relationships with them, that organize parties in Moscow or wherever, where visiting Americans can mingle, pick and choose who they want. And we thought Muslim's had it easy! But of course the women are well trained in the art of getting ahold of assets. If nothing else, there will always be some poor relative in Vladivostok who just needs a few thousand rubles to feed his family, pretty please. I guess the people that marry these broads deserve what they are getting into. I find it fascinating. Maybe, in the end, it's what marriage is really all about, and these relationships are just more honest about it.

It's fraudulent and illegal. I have had a woman from Tanzania and a woman from from the Phillipines (what the hell is it with the Phillipines) try to pass this offer to me. Just remember that these women and their pimps (I mean family), are not dumb. They know very well what their legal rights are as spouses and they will clean you out by the time its over, then continue to put the screws to you afterword, especially if you spawn a child with them. You can enjoy paying allimony forever and watching her split the dividends with the betel-stained smiles of her family, insulting you in Tagalog behind your back.Before the year or two is up, you might get some nookie on the side, but it would be cheaper just to fly to Manilla once in awhile and get it wholesale, if you are leaning in that direction.

We've had over 32 million immigrants come to the United States in the last decade, a number unmatched in our history. We don't need more inventive ways to keep them from coming over, we need to keep them out. On the bright side, the rumour-mill in the Phillipines is filled with stories of Angry American Husbands killing or otherwise commiting all sorts of unspeakable acts on their foreign wives, so at least they will be a bit fearful. But, the poverty is so bad it will continue to push people to degrade themselves like this.

The Society is probably more afraid of quantity then quality now. In the past some of these apostates talked about in hushed conversations like Ray Franz or Olaf may have had some iconic symbolism, but sites like this one that shoe Ex-JWs living well and unafraid to speak out about the Org are a far bigger problem now. No mistake about it, the Internet is the front lines of this little war and the Org has very little defensive and no offense.

But some ExWitnesses HAVE been influentual of late, either on purpose, or through legacy.

Quality Inn Suites, Noblesville Indiana

staying here on an over night business trip.

opened my drawer nwt bible i fell out of my bed.

called the front desk they are in every room here.. i will never stay at another quality inn even though they are owned individually.

I've had nothing but good stays at Quality Inns before, so this is a bit of a shock. Some possibilities I have thought of:

Like others have said, the hotel might be owned by a JW. If so he might count time every time he checks to make certain the NWT is still in each room.

Two: A lot of hotels are owned by Hindus. They typicaly have no interest in trying to tell a NWT from a Douay or a King James.

If the JW's are pushing their "free literature" on hotel owners who don't know any better, then we will probably see more of these. I practically live out of hotels about half the year, but the truth is i dont typically look in the drawer to see what kind of bible is in there. Now I might just look out of curiousity.

I have an old Joy Division record somewhere. Haven't played it in ages. Always made me want to blow my head off. Apparently had the same affect on the lead singer.
