last i knew it was the watchtower who owned them all, but the pubs had to pay the rent and mortgage.

I know that at least some halls as far as the nineties were owned by the corporations of the congregations themselves, as Elsewhere was saying. They typically did have to repay their mortgage payments back to the building fund, so their relationship to the Society is basically feudal. They congo's could technically schism from Brooklyn but they could never afford to do it. The Society is meanwhile protected from lawsuits, as they do not have (legally) any direct control over the congregations.

Labels have whatever meaning you put into them. Personally I don't feel like part of a "Group" of ex-Jws". I post here, and I like reading the different lives everyone has here, and sometimes how our lives are so similar due to similar backgrounds, but I'm not fooling myself. I don't really have any connection to anyone here,and that's about the extent of that. I do have an interest that the JW's stop killing their own through blood transfusions, and limit their children's education. That does bother me, and I don't find that easy way to end that attachment.
Just let the process go naturally. X-jw, apostate, disfellowshipped, all those things will bleach in time like a shirt put through the laundery too many times. It will be a faded label, will little meaning, and in the end you will remain.
i'm going through the required stuffies to buy a house.
actually, it's already mine, and posession date is at the end of september.
it's a great house, finished basement, 2 bathroom, 2 (or 3) bedroom, heated garage with a ceiling fan (the guy who owned it went through a divorce, i'm guessing he lived in the garage), nice back yard, fence, quiet neighborhood, i could keep going.. the bad thing is it's in my old congregation's territory.
Just put a speaker out on the porch to broadcast "music that debases" whenever they get ready to 'Hova you.

I was a security guard when I was 18-20 years old. I carried a baton but no gun. It was possible that I could be put in a job site that had a contract that required armed guards, but it didn't come up. The elder's never questioned me about it, one way or another. I guess the elder's interpretation of that part of the JW Talmud varies from congo to congo.

saw an episode with the green lizard men, the sleestaks!.
I loved those awful live-action shows on Saturdays back in the seventies. Land of the Lost was the best, because the Sleestaks were so scary (in their lethargic, inflexible way). Space Academy was pretty good too.
I used to hope that if my parents wound up at a door where the people let us in to do the presentation, that the kids would be watching those shows on TV (that and Superfriends and Fat Albert)

I don't know about Firefox, but I used Mozilla browser for everything else except JWD because it has some problems there. It's an excellent browser, much better IMO then Microsoft's.
