so if a couple studying with the witnesses who are not married want to become married so that they can get their lives in accordance with JW principles actually request an elder handle their marriage ceremony, most elders will now say no, and make them go to the Justice of the Peace instead. What a rediculous, uncaring religion. They paint themselves into a corner.

that was in the early sixties, i can't remember the details, but it wasn't in a church.
i haven't seen them since.. i have performed several marriage ceremonies years ago.

Blondie when did this come about?
I know of an elder who married a couple who were studying but living together (so that they could "progress" further". I remember it well because he was the only elder who showed up, (wasn't a KH wedding obviously), and very few other people were there. More cake for me to eat, but I felt sad for the couple, who were obviously treated like second class citizens. If the elder who did this actually bucked the system (this was 96 or 97) to do it, I have a newfound respect for him.

It's kind of tough doing the fade thing. I sympathize with anyone that has to, because it was a great releif off my shoulders when I wrote my letter and was DA'd. I have not regretted that decision.

32,000.. that's a rather large convention by modern standards, or maybe I was always in small districts. Conventions do generate a lot of revenue in hotel and restaurant fees, which in turn gives sorely needed tax revenues, so cities fight like broads over a $5 Coach purse to land conventions of all kinds. Witnesses have a bad reputation for not tipping though. On another downside they cause slight traffic congestion, but its a small price to pay.
I was at this one convention, went out to dinner with a bunch of other witnesses, at a HUGE table with one water. They walked this poor guy's butt off. When it was time to go, folks left a tip. THe cheapskate elder in front of me left one freakin dollar. He apparently thought me and my ex were gone already but we were just passing the table when we saw him actually walk back to the table and take his dollar back. He'd only done it for show, at that. He looked embarassed but didn't say anything, and of course being meeklike ones, we didn't say anything either.
