Aguest, I hate to say anything bad about your bizarre collection of mumbo-jumbo, but how would there be 12000 distinct members for each of the Hebrew tribes still distinct? It's impossible because of the diaspora (and no doubt the tribal structure had already broken down during the two monarchies, (Monarchist governments tend to override older tribal forms of organization) if in fact there really were twelve distinct tribes at all.

How can 144,000 be a literal number?
by Pleasuredome inhow does the wts explain that the sum total of symbolic numbers equals a literal number?
rev 7:4-8
logic says that if the sum parts are symbolic, then the total can only be symbolic.

Did you ever have dreams about Armageddon ????

I had this dream while I was a witness that all kinds of people were killed, zapped, whatever, and then it was over. the JWs survived but so did a lot of other people which caused confusion. The last part of the dream was really awful, with Jehovah some kind of unseen dictator using minesterial servants as gestapo. The elders and minesterial servants lived inside these wonderful domes with all kinds of nice things, while everyone else toiled to make the wrecked earth a garden. In the dream in confronted a minesterial servent I knew in real life but then Jehovah got mad at me for it and I couldnt breathe. I woke up scared to death and wrote it down.
It wasn't long after that that I stopped going to meetings.

Non Christian Theists
by logansrun inare there any non-christian theists on this board?
i ask because it seems that there are two polarities for the members here: either some form of evangelicalized christian or atheist.
but, has anyone managed to go a different route?

I believe it was a famous swami who once said, "When I am in the temple I am a Hindu, when I am at Church I am a Christian, when I am at a mosque a mussalman."
I tend to follow the Vedanta, so you could perhaps call me a Vedantist. (www.vedanta.org for explanatin etc., I don't feel like a long explanatory post). At the same time I am also interested in the harmony of all world religions, and in western esotericism especially.

I agree about the Canada thing. If the US gets more and more fascists its gonna suffer a major braindrain as talen leaves the country. Maybe they will have a Patriot Citizen Restraining Act then.

Jobs you weren't aloud to have
by JH inwhat job or career would you have loved to do, but being a jw, you weren't aloud to do that?
and how about the college or university course you couldn't get because the end was too close.
did you miss good job opportunities because of the watchtowers expectations?

What are the benifits of DA? Should I DA?
by zucker ini'm wondering if i should just "come out of the closet" and tell my family i don't believe it anymore and da myself or don't make any noise and fade out?
what are the benefits or problems with either choice?
additionally, some have expressed concern over da.

Kind of true except that the society automatically DA's some people instead of going through the DF process to cover their ass legally. They use it when comeone gets a blood transfusion, joins the army, or another religion, for instance. Most witnesses are not aware of that fact, but it is slowly dawning on them, so DA and DF are a very blurred area now.

HELP! where is the most 'pagan' country?
by Ravyn inpagan as in witchcraft, deism, atheism..... because this is where i want to live.
after reading the thread on rapture and talking to 'friend' last night---omg!
this guy actually thought the earthquake in chattanooga a couple of nights ago was the rapture!

I never thought of pagans as deists. Strictly speaking I think a pagan was someone who followed the Hellenistic religion.
The online deist community at www.deism.org would find that interesting. Paganism/Wicca has kind of become flavor of the week, the way New Age was in the 80's, and eastern religions were in the 60s-70s

Try Papua New Gunea.Failing that you could try portions of the Amazon rainforest, or perhaps Bourkina Faso.
