Fata Morgana. Just enjoy the effects and don't worry about the causation. (IMHO)

Centering Prayer
by Introspection init is a christian contemplative practice, i guess it's taught by a father thomas keating.
in the blurb i read it mentions that phrase "clouds of unknowing" which was first used by an anonymous christian mystic, i always thought that's a good way of putting it.
anyways i'm interested to know what it involves.

Counting all classes of X-JWs (Submarines <they pop up at memorials>, Faders, Inactive Ones, DA's, DF's, Publishers who just stopped coming, True Faith Jehovah's Witnesses, children who went but never got baptized) I would not be suprised if there might be almost as many X's as there are JWs. Certainly the X-JW community is the most vocal. There are x-Bahai, X-Mormon and other x-whatevers, but it seems like X-JWs make more noise and put more pressure on the group they left.

We had a tornado touchdown at about 1230am abot 15 miles east of our home. It was touch and go for about an hour. I'll be glad when this storm system goes away. The streets are getting flooded.

Its good these are becoming better known. The Church did a big disservice in the middleages (dark ages?) of making its meditational methods more for the clerics and less for the laity. Other groups like Hermetics, that also had meditational methods, had to keep them quiet in light of the fact that a good many people became human torches for unorthodoxy.
When eastern meditational methods became available to the west, the big spiritual shift east occured, and I think in large part this happened because of the fact that meditational education was not given out by the Church at large. Nowadays, there are methods being offered in an attempt to make up for lost time (with some Jesuits even being trained in zazen at Zen monastaries, for instance), but I have to wonder if its too little too late. Any meditational instruction is good though, as long as its not some corruption of the idea (like the Watchtower's horrid attempt to turn meditation into more Watchtower and Asleep! Study time.)

Onacruse, that figure has to be taken into historical context, because 1975 was coming up like a jail on wheels to the faithful. A lot of DF'd people might have been scared into reinstatement.

If any JWs who have epilepsy remain in the organization after this, or if they have children who have this condition and remain, then they are self-hating cowards.

As an American I kind of think of all English people as Andy Partidge-esqe, Candians as Cold Filtered Americans, and Austrailians as New Zealanders with attitudes.

Publically traded companies have a responsibility towards free society. WalMart has long had a Christian agenda. It's very obvious. The best thing, of course, would be to fight back and shop at a locally owned, but that is easier to talk about then to do. I shop the place, so I really can't complain as much as I'd like to.

How can 144,000 be a literal number?
by Pleasuredome inhow does the wts explain that the sum total of symbolic numbers equals a literal number?
rev 7:4-8
logic says that if the sum parts are symbolic, then the total can only be symbolic.
