If you sever your ties you might feel more free, then you would by fading. Never wondering whose monitoring your activity. Never flinching when the doorbell rings. Just something to consider.

What's The Worst "Encouragement" That You've Recieved From The Brothers?
by minimus inafter reading nina and sadie's experience, i couldn't help but appreciate hearing how the brothers are always trying to "encourage" ones.
how did they try to encourage you?

You should have said, ''Smacking YOU would be much more effective''!
Little Witch,
Actually I did say to one of the MS's that I'd rather hit him then my daughter. Things got worse with us until we had an altercation in the hall on the last day I went there.

there is an expecially ugly little secert elder (or Congregation Servant) booklet written back in the 60s or 70s. I used to have a copy but I lost it when I moved.
It's called "Kingdom Service Questions" and I can see why it was kept secret. It helped me decide the witensses were not some special organization to god.

Remnants of JWism
by berylblue infor me, i don't have "remnants".
i am still, i realize, about 90 percent jw.. however, i'm curious as to what other still have "left" from the org...for example, i am still politically neutral for the most part, and would not support any war and would rather die than take up arms.
this may be mostly my own pre-jw personality, but at this point in time, its so difficult to know what i am, even who i am..... do any of you still have (or maybe cling to, which may be true in my case) jw beliefs or tendencies, or have you gotten rid of them all?

Just accept that JWism was part of the journey you were one. Learn what you can from it, and then move on (and post funny stuff about it on JWD)

We were a young low-income family with a toddler who made noises as children do. Got tired of "brothers and sisters" suggesting we smack our daughter to keep her quiet.
We were lovingly relegated to the last two rows of the hall in a local needs talk. After that we pretty much stopped going to that hall, tried going back to meetings later on in a different city, but it was same crap, different day.

Can a Religion Be Too Stupid to Live?
by metatron inpeople have believed in some pretty dumb stuff in the name of religion.
examples:.
this cracker will turn into a piece of jesus when you eat it ( catholics).

the Subgenius have been around awhile. www.subgenius.com
the Church of the Golden Microphone has yet to completely die out http://erinb.freeshell.org/sphere/
and it's still possible to buy from AMWAY
religions, even ones created as a joke, tend to have incredible staying power compared to corporations or even governments. the Catholics have been around the better part of 2000 years but that's just peanuts compared to Zoroastrians, Judaeism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Gnosticism. Even the egyptian mystery cults were kept alive through various means to this day. Paganism (as in European non-Christian religions) is back out of the closet as well.

Lady Lee,
They could, however, go the state-liscenced, but unapproved route (like Bob Jones University). If they did this, then their credits would not be transferrable, but this would force Jdubs to stay in the program rather then transfer out. It would also allow them to keep an all JW staff with dubious teaching credentials..

The WT on witchcraft
by figureheaduk infelt a little bored earlier so i decided to take a trip over to the wt's badly researched propaganda official site, when i stumbled upon this little gem concerning the wiccan faith:.
http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/2000/4/1/article_02.htm.
it's the usual waffle from the (old) boys in brooklyn about paganism is worshipping satan, only the bible (and by implication that the wt) is the absolute "truth" blah, blah, blah.

If You Never Were a JW What Religion Would You Have Been?
by minimus inpersonally, i find catholicism too weird and if followed properly, just another "cult".
if i was not raised as a witness, i probably would have been a "home baptist" or something like that.
what do you think you would have been, religiously speaking, if you were not first a witness?

my parents were witnesses when I was born. I wouldn't be "me" otherwise so there is no answer.
