Jehovah, please don't burn us.
Don't grill or toast Your flock.
Don't put us on the barbecue
Or simmer us in stock.
Don't braise or bake or boil us
Or stir-fry us in a wok.
Oh, please don't lightly poach us
Or baste us with hot fat.
Don't fricassee or roast us
Or boil us in a vat,
And please don't stick Thy servants, Lord,
In a Rotissomat.(plagurized from Monty Python I'm not sorry)

The Hooks: Which One Did You Bite?
by ezekiel3 ini have a theory that recruited jws (not those born into it) all have a specific reason why they converted.
i also believe that it is still these "hooks" that keep them going - in the face of so many facts that prove jws are ridiculously wrong.
for those who were raised a jw: was there a hook besides the negative "you will lose your life, family and friends?".

I don't think you need a hook if you are born into JW-ism. You are socialized as a JW, taught JW teachings as the one sole truth, and you are isolated from the world at large.

Charles T Russell -a freemason and the connection to the illuminati...
by dolphman inok, i'm not one for conspiracy theories but lately i've uncovered some interesting facts that i think warrant some attention.. first of all, russell was a freemason.
all the early watchtower and books he authored have freemason symbology and art throughout them.
not a big deal i thought, until i read more about freemasons and the so-called "illuminati", a group of 13 families that supposedly control the world.. supposedly these 13 families, such as the duponts, mcdonalds, kennedys, .

Yeah I've heard the same. How does Enochian magic differ from say reading the Kabbalah? They are not one in the same are they?
no. Enochian magick was drummed up by a court astrologer named John Dee back in the late 1500's-early 1600's. (Who is also famous for having been a spy for Queen Elizabeth.. his code number was 007!!) Edward Kelley also helped with it.
It's not realted to the Qabalistic Tree of life, as far as I know, but it's possible that it has been worked into the Tree the same way that Tarot may be used in western esoteric practise.

Dolphman,
I don't know of Enochian Magic being practised by Masons. BOTA and some other orders eschew (or outright forbid) because they believe it to be demonic in origin. Strangely enough there are rumours that some high up in the WTS do practise Enochian, which might explain their fascination with demonology.

Now Golden Dawn, I do know a lil something about, since the Order I am has a lineage with them. Golden Dawn has no dark agenda. It's practises are rosicrucian and hermetic, and some of the rituals are also masonic. It's about becoming a better person. The one thing Golden Dawn did which my order will not is Enochian Magick.
I think the early witnesses, CTR especially were influenced, but not greatly. Mostly I think Russell just used the symbology because it looked cool and "ancient".

A bitesize chunk of the Hindu faith ...
by El blanko ini wrote this for a friend a few days ago and thought it may have some use here.
i realize that this is only scratching the surface of the faith and hope i have not offended anybody.
the hindu faith has affected millions of people for hundreds of years and re-emerged as a guiding light in contemporary times.

Great Note el blanko!
Mulan: some hindus do believe in a "Supreme God". Its a pretty wide tapestry.
Hinduism is a convenient word, but there are so probably thousands of different faiths incorpoarated under the umbrellat of that world. The main unifying ties of hinduism seem to be the Vedas, the Caste System, and ethnicity.
Vaishnaivs believe that Vishnu is a supreme deity, somewhat akin to the Judeao-Christian "God", and that the rest are basically demigods or else other avatars of Vishnu himself. The ISKCON sect (Hare Krishnas) take this to the extreme. Vaishnaivs are pretty much monotheistics.
Saivites believe that Shiva is the dominant deity. They aren't particualrly monotheistic though.
Smartas typically reject the concept of a God-and-people on various levels. They believe in a monist universe where everything is part and parcel god of "Braham", not to be confused with Brahma or Brahmin. They may worship the gods, anyway, but only as exalted persons on a higher level of realization. The Unpanishads are very important to these practioners. The Vedanta Society is probably the largest group of Smartas in America, and unlike many Hinduism sects, it does have Western converts.
Shaktas tend to have more devotion to the femine aspects of Brahman. Their main deities are therefore Godesses like Durga and Kali. Shakta has never really made it over from Bharat so its little known abroad, but has many many adherants.
There are other sects. You can't really consider Jainism or Buddhism to be sects of Hinduism as both reject the Vedas and the Caste System, but they sprang from hinduism, the same way Islam and Christianity both came from the Jewish faith.

No one bats an eye when religious people go to minister to prisoners, so give her some slack. Apparently she prayed for him. As for her opinions on the death penalty.. that's her own opinion. I don't really have one.
But I do not think that prisoners should be able to sell arts and crafts and proffit from their notereity. He ended people's lives, and here he is using his time to sell things.
