how to the 144,000 get to heaven?

i have asked this to witnesses and they say it's their spirit, which is their life forces that goes up to heaven... that makes no sense to me.

because isn't the spirit, in effect, taking on the properties we normally consider the soul as having?

so what's the difference what you call it?

Would You Ever Become A "Bible Student" & Believe In Russell's Writings?

since there have been so many recent threads on charles taze russell, the 1st president of the watch tower society, would you ever consider following that movement?

would you ever want to become a "bible student" and learn from the writings of russell so that you could understand "divine truths"?

the future is unwritten. I've been a lot of things. If I remain a buddhist, I doubt I would be able to juggle being that AND a biblestudent (too wierd a mix there). They BS'es interest me, but probably more in a hisorical what-if sort of way.

I think it is very difficult to objectively look back at the early WTBS (or was it ZW&BTS?) pre-Rutherford, especially those of us who have had our minds poisoned a bit with such rediculous books as Revelation Climax and Kingdom Proclaimers. As RR was saying in another post, the society at that point was basically a publishing house and was pretty much removed from the ecclesias, so their advertising items that were basically "in the same vein" like bible versions, seems pretty appropriate, not like the later Golden Age selling "Miracle Weat" and the "Radio Biola"

My dad was a firefighter, and I knew another witness that was a firefighter, so I opened this page with some trepidation. Sad that this man died. Hope he finds the afterlife to be even better then what he expected.

On Shunning

the command of men to practice shunning is cruel and heartless, as we all know.

it tears people up from the heart and hurts everyone involved.. the rigidity and "uptightness" of believing that only you have the "right way" to god, and that being warm and cordial to someone who has left your religion, or attending another church service is going to "cost you" (god will getcha for that---or the elders will) in some way....is so self-limiting.. we all have the right to the pursuit of happiness and to find a faith that renews and motivates us to be our best.

being humans and experiencing growth all the while we are "here", what may be just the "ticket" for us personally at one stage in our life---may not fulfill the same needs a number of years later.. it is not fair that a belief system ( or religious leaders) rather than being a comfort or a teacher any longer, should have the right to keep a "hold" on any person because they choose to move on to another form of worship to the same god.. this flies in the face of what we hold dear in this country and in most others, being forever captive to men who believe that they have the right or the power to penalize ones for the rest of their lives for walking away from their religion.

Why can't those who believe in this shunning....see that in a time period when everyone is seeking the love and comfort of their friends ad family, and are mindful of just how important our relationships with others ARE-----that this harmful practice is even allowed.

Because they do what their told despire what their conscience tells them. Their new conscience is somewhere in New York.

The Time Travel Tale of John Titor -- Brilliant Internet Hoax?

if any of you are bored and want to read a very fascinating tale of what i think is one of the more interesting internet hoaxes, there is the story of john titor.

the web site says:

"although there is debate over the exact date it started, on november 02, 2000, a person calling themselves timetravel_0, and later john titor, started posting on a public forum that he was a time traveler from the year 2036.

Cool thing about Titor is that the hoax author gave a year to let everyone off the hook. In otherwords, if some sort of "Waco" type event doesnt occur by the end of 2004, its pretty obvious he was a prank.

Idea for when "Beware the Voice of Strangers" is studied

after reading the "beware the voice of strangers" article, a thought occurred to me.

it has been suggested in the past that a number of board members ought to attend a particular meeting all on the same day.

why not on the sunday when this article is studied?

I may be wrong about this, but from what I understand, the WItnesses are allowed to vote now, under certain circumstances, so your registering to vote may not in itself be cause to disfellowship you, although the elders will certainly demand to speak with you.
