I had been out for 27 years and had never met another xjw before coming here. I was really at loose ends wondering what the deal was. This board let me know I was not alone and that questions I had were valid and told me the real truth about the wts. I am forever grateful and it has given me peace of mind that I did not make the wrong decision when I left.

RIP Dansk (aka Ian), 18.12.1953- 20.12.2008

i need to let you know that dad passed away this morning at 8am.
he fought so hard but in the end they could not get his blood pressure to rise and he died of heart failure.

I am so very sorry. I shall remember Ian/Dansk with great fondness, as one who tried his best to help others, as one who showed gratitude for the littlest kindness, as one with tolerance and compassion....a very special person.

MY PROJECT IS (FINALLY) FINISHED!

it seems that alot of us still have family members in the religion and have not infrequent arguments with them about some of the beliefs and practices.

WHERE WERE YOU 7 YEARS AGO?
by Mary inguess i'll be the first one to do an (inevitable) thread about 9-11. hard to believe it's been 7 years already.
i was at work when one of my co-workers came up and told me that a plane had hit the world trade center.
i thought it was awful, but i figured it was a small single engine plane that maybe lost its way in the fog.

We were having work done on our house. A worker called up the stairs and said a plane had hit the WTC. Went downstairs and turned on the TV -- All the workers came in and we all watched as the second plane hit. I said, "Everyone is dead on the top floors." We live within distant eyesight of NYC skyline and I said I had to get away from the TV and walk. It was such a beautiful day. Blue sky, crisp air. I listened to the radio as I walked. I saw a neighbor who I did not really know and asked if he had been listening to the news. He said he had been in Viet Nam, hated the US government, he was so happy bc he had just been waiting for something like this to happen. That was bizarre. As I walked I heard that the South tower had collapsed. When I got back home the TV was off and I told everyone that the tower was down. We turned the TV back on and watched the second tower collapse. My town lost a few dozen people. They said people gathered on the beach, wives whose husbands were at the WTC were screaming. They closed the beach to the public. It was horror. It was horrible. Very, very traumatic.

hi terry -- just to let you know i really enjoy yours posts. i remember being at the assembly in 1968 (either Yankee Stadium or Jersey City - somewhere near NYC) and my Bethelite fiance came excitedly with the new red "Life Everlasting" release and said, "Armageddon is coming in 1975." There was an insistent buzz throughout the whole stadium, like a game of telephone but everyone saying the same thing. it will happen in '75. subsequent days in my cong. saw wayward offspring suddenly returning, preaching insistently. everyone kept talking about it tho my father expressed his doubts to my immediate family. later on when wts started to backpedal, i remember the faithful playing recordings of various speakers definitely saying it was coming. we all waited with anticipation. of course, you know, i left it all in '76 - husband, friends, religion, me a former pioneer with no education and no money and no friends and no frame of reference. somehow i managed and nothing was ever the same for me again.

hi tom.... thx for your answer. i have watched you a bit on channel c, and now am watching here. will probably continue to watch with interest, but mostly have not been around. wish i could get that cable channel. you may remember having dinner with my husband and me in milford a few years ago. when we met you were a baptist elder and i was just returning to my spiritual search. all of the religions and denominations and differences are mostly confusing for me. your embracing the catholic church too is confusing, bc i so respect your intelligence and reasoning and motives, yet catholicism seems so alien to the truth (old conditioning?) so nothing is new. i began to attend a cbs bible study a few years ago -- it is non-denominational, everyone is respected, and it is the most comfortable place i have found to date -- although i have my questions there too, of course. sometimes i feel like i am back at square one -- just too dumb to figure it all out. these days, despite all of my questions, doubts and confusion, i just trust the Lord. i believe in His surpassing love and mercy and that gives me great comfort. it is great that you have a mate who is loving and supportive of this spiritual search -- and smart too --, and seemingly pretty much on the same page. not that mine isn't, but you know, he was born and raised catholic, studied for the priesthood, and catholic at heart he will most likely always be. so as much as he tries to understand, he just cannot "get" my wanting to just get it right and the turmoil i feel when things are obviously wrong. my very best wishes to you and gloria. nowisee

you must have been there when i first posted, when i first came on jwd. i saw this sassy old lady with a great sense of humor. then i found out little by little what you did to help all of those coming out of wbts. mouthy/grace,,,, you have been just great. i know well the feeling of wanting to leave this vail of tears, but, you know, it doesn't always happen according to OUR timing, but of someone else's. please just know how much you are loved while you are here....how much you have added to the sense of all of us....and i am sure just how much you have given all the athiests here pause. we love you. we love you. we love you. best wishes, nowisee
