I do believe that very argument is being made in some European countries right now, in regards to the blood issue; the Witnesses are being charged with violating the human rights of their members.
The US, however, has a very strong history of case-law indicating that the protections of the bill of rights apply exclusively to government. Federal and state civil rights laws, OTOH, do apply to private entities; their impact on religious entities, however, is very limited because of the freedom of religion clause of the First Amendment.

Why has SilentLambs come to be? I dunno... many reasons. For years, the WTS had no specific policy on child abuse. Even after it did, it has often, in practice, followed a course of trying to hush up such incidents. And, as if that weren't bad enough... elders have often gone even farther than the Society in trying to hush things up. Responsibility still comes back to the Society, because it's done little to discipline such elders or to rectify matters. The Catholic church has at least instituted a large-scale investigation. I don't think that the WTS would dream of such a step... they don't want to know the truth of how extensive the problem is. IMHO.
So I'm not at all justifying the Society's handling of such cases! I think it's despicable. I was just correcting what I do believe is an innacurate statement as to Witness policy.

For JW Bible Students And Those Wondering If It's "Really The Truth"?
by rainbow2003 inalthough cbs, dateline nbc etc have also correctly documented the child molestation situation involving the watchtower society (wts) over jehovah's witnesses (jws), this, which is also shocking, is to even better inform the general public including medical personnel, jws themselves and persons studying bible subjects with them.
your sharing copies of this will can help save many lives even as others have already told us.
christmas: the wts teaches that christ was likely born about october 2, so why ignore that this means that he must have been conceived 9 months before, meaning in late december.

I guess she doesn't realize that according to the WTS, Jehovah removed his power from Jesus at his execution to allow him to suffer to the fullest degree...

The elders now need two witnesses to each event.
Last I heard, official policy was two witnesses to the same kind of sin, not to the same event. Do you have any evidence otherwise?

Further to this, if a single man has a dog could the elders decide to disfellowship on the grounds of bestiality?
ROFL!

"Reinstatement Party" Called Off Per The Society
by minimus ina number of weeks ago, i mentioned how my niece was seeking reinstatement.
well, after all was said and done, the elders allowed her back in.
my brother and his wife were giving her a little "coming back" party with about a total of 35 guests.

ninecharger... I would fully respect IslandWoman's opinion if she were a Christian, and had a definite opinion about what Christianity should be.
What disturbs me is that she is not a Christian, but presumes to state, flat-out, that a person is not a true Christian if they don't accept the entire NT. To me, that's as if a Republican tried to tell me that I'm not really a liberal because I don't agree entirely with the platform of the Democratic party.

Were you married at the Kingdom Hall ? How bad was your wedding reception ?
by run dont walk ini'm just wondering...... i remember going to some wedding receptions for couples who got married at the kingdom hall,.
and i hate to be mean but, super boring, and bad, how bad you ask ??
ok here we go ..... - the worst had to be one couple played kingdom meolodies for their wedding dances, i couldn't believe it.. - no alcohol (i'm sure we all experienced a few of these), reception was over by 9:30.. - no music at all, just a gathering of people, and they ended the reception with a prayer, i thought i was at an assembly.. - food, like if you can't afford to get married don't, like frozen stuff bought at your local grocery store, and still in the package when you got up to the tables, how tacky.. - you could always tell a couple who couldn't afford much, when you had to drive 50 miles into the back woods to find some dinky little community hall they rented for $100.. - i remember one where the bride was pregnant, i was really surprised they allowed them to use the kingdom hall.. - another classic was, they had this band (of all jw's of course) and man they were bad.

Thanks, cheeses and cruzan!
Cheeses... my fiancee and I did consider changing the location of the wedding. But it didn't fit well with our other plans. And frankly, the dubs are always going to be a part of who we are. While we dislike the teachings, we love a lot of the people. So I don't think that having a wedding at the KH is going to be a bad memory for us. We do, however, want to take the wedding pictures somewhere else.
Cruzan... for some reason, I thought that they were a little softer on the wedding outline. I hope so! Our elder is a bit of an independent thinker (I really hope he'll recognize the truth about the truth someday). I hope he can get away with it.
As far as jdub weddings... absolutely, some have been fun. I was just at one... the talk was boring, it was held at a seniors center, and there was no alcohol (the latter two probably because of the financial circumstances of the couple). But there was good food, good entertainment, and good dancing; I had a great time. I've been to another dub wedding that had a great talk; the reception food was crappy, but there was an open bar, and a very good live salsa band. (Unfortunately, the couple was criticized afterwards because the music was too loud. It was a bit of a cultural issue, I think... the bride and groom, along with a good chunk of the congregation, were Puerto Rican; all the people complaining about the volume were Caucasian.)
I've been to crappy jdub weddings too, of course. It just depends on the couple!

IslandWoman... I don't know about other Christians. Personally, I don't presume to try to tell anyone how they should worship God. That sort of arrogance is one of the things I didn't like about the Dubs.
As far as 'religious anarchy'... who says that's a bad thing? Each individual chooses for themselves what to believe; we will all stand before God for judgment. It does not appear to be God's purpose at this time to have all Christians united in the exact same doctrinal beliefs.
As far as Paul and his attitude towards legalism... IMHO, that's getting too far off-topic for this thread. If you're serious about wanting to discuss, feel free to post your points in another thread, and I'll reply.

This ruling applies exclusively to protections from intrusion of privacy by the government. It has no relation to the action of private parties.
