for any of you that have read my threads(im a struggling one)

they way im seeing it is that jw seem to teach only honesty which i dont see as being a bad thing at all so why are some of you on here using **** this and **** that or im going to do some fornication now blah blah blah , i dont mean to be offensive at all but some of you say you are christian????

or is it that you have been repressed for to long ?

help me as i feel stuck in the middle , dont know what to do

Hi Munkafats,

First off, welcome to the board! I hope the craziness hasn't scared you away.

This board has a variety of folks on it--some JW, some ex-JW, some never-been. I have never been a JW, but have a dear friend who is--and I had a lot of questions about why she would act so oddly. I came here to understand JWs from those who have been there. I've gotten quite an education.

Some of the people here are NOT Christian, but some are (me, for one). We are trying to discuss how we really see things, bring out our real questions, etc. That is the hope, anyway. It's a bit like an extended family, with all the thoughtful, interesting, fun, and odd-ball relatives all together.

I realize that some of the topics and posts may be pretty offensive to some folks (I personally ignore what I think is offensive). If people are using foul language to be offensive--then you should contact a moderator and let them know the post/poster. The moderator will edit the thread (and usually warn the poster to be more careful).

BTW, we have gotten a lot of newbies here recently, too, who may not be aware of the rules of the forum and they sometimes think "Woohoo, anything goes". --Which is actually NOT true!! When you post, you are agreeing to some rules which are right there.

It might really help a LOT if you did a little background reading first! I very highly recommend looking at the great intro thread especially for newbies, courtesy of the lovely jgnat:

Don't feel put off by no/few responses. I don't post many topics, and most of them are ignored.

It's nice to have replies, though, especially if the topic interests you a lot.

And btw, anyone who just keeps on posting comments/questions does, kinda by osmosis, get sucked into "being" JWD. That is, you really are a part of it, like it or not/realize it or not.

dear friends,.

much of what we do on a daily basis is routine and of no particular, earth-shaking importance.

however, after reviewing letters of family going back to wwii, it is fascinating to read what dad was doing on board the aircraft carrier in the pacific on any old day, what mom was cooking on her ever-steaming range, how i was dealing with the roller coaster of emotion at bethel [mom saved all my letters], how nana wrote that she would not study with the witnesses [per my request] but 'here are some mittens i knitted for you when you canvass new york with your magazines.

Today a former international student who had lived with us during '03 - '05 came to visit us, along with his entire family who flew in from Hong Kong. He just graduated from the Univ of WA yesterday (in the rain!!!), and they all drove here to meet us today. I spent the whole weekend cleaning and baking things, and I was able to offer a bit of a spread, with homemade fruit tart (homegrown strawberries), banana bread, biscotti, freshly roasted coffee, and some fruit. His family were really kind people, very enjoyable.

Later this evening I was chatting with our current international student, who is from Korea. His father's best friend's family live in another city, and the parents are becoming jealous of our relationship with him. On vacations and weekends, they don't want him to stay here but to be with them. He is having a hard time fending them off; he wants to speak more English so that he can improve faster.

He told me that he is also getting pressure from them to marry their daughter. (She is a very wonderful gal, actually, and I'm quite impressed by her.) He says that though she is a very good person, he does not want to marry anyone, period. ...After a long pause, he then tells me that he had a girlfriend when he was 22, but she suffered from a congenital blood disease, and died by the time he was 24. (He is now 27.) ... His folks never knew he had this girlfriend, nor that she died! Good heavens...!

Now I must attend to getting my take-home final exam finished so that it can be turned in tomorrow night. (I think I've got the grade nailed for the quarter. )

How Did Being Referred To As A Brother Or Sister Make You Feel?

how did being referred to as a brother or sister make you feel?the term brother always reminded me of being in some militant or holy roller religion.

during my tenure as a jehovahs witness, i brought it to the elders attention to refer to .

me by using my first or last name when addressing me.

It really bothered me when a baptized jw would be called on at the meeting and be called Brother Smith and then an unbaptized adult would be adressed by their first name. They made class distinctions in every way they could think of.

Never having been a JW, I did not know that they only addressed those baptised by "brother" or "sister". That really sounds like class distinction to me, too.

I totally agree with you, carla. It is hard for non-JWs to know how controlled the JW life is. Sure, the nuttiness makes us shake our heads. But the cruelty that is taught to be 'love' is simply a form of control, and it seems utterly unbelievable.

Paris Hilton sent back to jail

they sent paris hilton back to jail.

as i have expressed on here many time, paris hilton is my least favorite of the hollywood people.

so, seeing her escorted from the court to the police car like a common criminal, while she yelled for her mother, ...... .

If the sentence was fair, then she should serve it.

The "medical condition" she claims to have likely is pretty common for a person being sentenced to jail--mega stress! But, if no one else is getting home monitoring because of stress, neither should she.

Hopefully, jail time will make her grow up.

(But instead, she'll probably write a book... )

just a one-page article on an ex-jw support group in toronto.

macleans is canada's version of "time" with a large circulation.

it's also the magazine that did the large article on the septuplets.

Wow, great article!!! I love the picture they used! I'll bet that guy gets a lot of contacts!

If someone writes to the editor that is published, more people could find out about JWD--and they don't have to live in Toronto to benefit from it.

HELP....My Daughter Has FLEAS!!!

has anyone here ever dealt with this????.

i have tried olive oil, tea tree oil, flea shampoo and now mayo with tea tree oil.. they are so small it's hard to tell what they are but i saw them the first time she came home and they were big sand fleas.

she had gone to the beach the week before and then when the school did a head lice check they told her she had fleas.

I'm not familiar with sand fleas... are they that different from regular fleas? I've never heard of treating a kid for fleas the same way one would treat a kid for lice.

A few years back our cats brought in fleas to the house. I was resigned to flea-bombing the place, but before I did I bought some Advantage for the cats. Within 24 hours all the fleas in the house were GONE. They jumped on the cats, and died! So now, I consider the dog/cats we have as flea killers during the summer, because wherever they go the fleas will die.

So, if you have a cat/dog, get some Advantage and let him roam around. --I've lent out our dog to a friend, btw, because her kid brought home fleas too! Seems to be working for them.
