Birthday celebration/participation
by Zana inmy wife is considering to let our kids participate, maybe even celebrate their own birthdays.
she says what can be so bad about just giving a little kid (who doesn't yet understand the bible) a day full of joy and happiness?
she herself actually delayed her own baptism as a teenager in order to celebrate one more birthday.

Job's children had a big feast at their own day (in some bible translation birthday) in Job 1.
Of course WT says it is not a birthday that rhey celebrated. But the same expression is in Job 3 where Job most definitely means his day of birth.

You can not be df'd if you celebrate birthdays.
In the elder "Shepherd" book it is only mentioned that celebrating a RELIGIOUS holiday (like christmas, easter) is a df offence. Rank and file don't know about that. Probably much more would start to celebrate it if they knew.

ONE REASON
by snare&racket inout of interest, and to formulate a cordial chat, would you give your top one reason for your belief or non belief?.
my foremost 'one reason' for non belief is:.
the historical evidence that provides an explination and timeline for how the modern religious doctrine's and dogma developed over time.. .

I believe in a creator (creative force). I am sure he / she / it is different than how most people or religions depict him. I believe he made the universe and natural forces in a way that life in endless variety is able to evolve. So I believe in theistic evolution. The reason: I and all other lives or things are real. It must come from somewhere.
Is the creator "personal", is he in a loving way interested in us? After reading a lot of "near death experiences" (especially of children and people born blind) I tend to believe he is.

What are the consequences if a JW files for an unscriptural divorce?
by Daniel1555 inin january my wife separated from me, because she views me as an apostate (to make the story short).. at that time the elders explained to us, that the bible doesn't approve of such a separation.
i heard from my mother in law, that my wife finally wants to divorce.
(when i think of how my wife treated me the last year i actually want a divorce too).. now my question to you:.

Hey friends
Thanks for clarifying.
LoisLane: I love to hear your experiences. Just a question to you. Would you have liked your ex to commit a sexual act in order for you to be free? How would you have reacted if your ex told you: "I go and lie to the elders that I had a sexual act with someone in order for you to be free". Would you have said to the elders "no, my ex is saying something wrong" or would you just be relieved that you are free to remarry?

Thanks for your answers.
Dozy: She moved to another congregation 500 km away. I was just wondering if they would give her some restrictions like not allowed to answer at meetings or as you said no aux. pioneering.

Just a little more info.
In her eyes it is because of apostasy. I am officially not df. In the elders eyes I am a brother who has big doubts.

Are there any "theocratic" consequences for the one partner who files for an unscriptural divorce? If yes, what are those consequences / restrictions?

hey DD. Glad you have the 1st day behind you.
I am so happy not to attend the convention for the first time. When I still go from time to time to the meetings and it happens that they discuss all the details about the International convention in Frankfurt and the 500 km. trip there, hotel stuff etc. I just keep laughing inside.
I'm just wondering what face the brothers will show, when they find out that I am not attending.
Just one little story that happened at the last international convention I attended in Frankfurt. I had the great privilege to help out as an attendant. In the football stadium the ranks with seats are really steep. So the brothers have to walk a lot of stairs. Now the whole day it was a hot summer day with more than 30° celsius. It was crazy to wear ties with such a heat. So I saw a middle aged brother who was fighting his way up the stairs. His tie was very tight, his face pale and full of sweat. As he paused, I approached him and asked if he was alright and said he should drink enough and maybe loosen his tie. He said I shouldn't worry, he's OK. At the time he reached his seat he fell unconscious and they had to call the ambulance. At that convention they needed the ambulance quite often.

How do individual JW's justify Jehovah's Old Testament orders to kill little children even babies (amalekites, canaanites)?
by Daniel1555 inin 1. samuel 15:2-3 we read jehovah's order to kill "all" amalekites.
it says "you are to put them to death, man as well as woman, child as well as infant...".
in deuteronomy 2:32-34 the israelites say about sihon.

Thanks Legacy for your comments.
I agree with you that we should spend "quality" time with our children and not neglect them.
