I came to the very same conclusion while studing the Greatest Man book. I still wonder why my family doesn't see the similarities.

Why Doesn't The WT. Get Embarrassed When They Talk About The Pharisees?
by minimus in.
one thing that i could never figure out was how the society could rail against the scribes and pharisees and not blink an eye.
what's up with that?

My 8yr old asked,"Is it a crime to not be a JW anymore?
by LyinEyes inyesterday my two youngest were walking into the grocery store,,,,,,,piggly wiggly, hehe, and just as we crossed the street, the elder we have known since my hubby and i were teens, he is our age, drove by with his wife.
she was completly turned away, and he was so close , five feet maybe, i could see his face well.
well something just hit me, to wave at him,,,,,,,,,,i figured he would drive on as usual.

I was like you LyinEyes. I had no problem talking to DF or DA'd ones. This one girl who I grew up with was DF'd and very depressed. It made her so happy that I was talking to her. Unfortunately, she's back in now. I miss her lots. (sigh)

to everyone who loves the elders for all they have done....
by elumn8 inin fact... they know they are so perfict that they need jesus's deserved kindness because they've been so perfict.. in fact... i believe that they could disfellowship everyone that they deem not to be born perfict.
in fact they couldn't tell you wether they would want you to come back to the so called 'truth'.. because well they can't talk to you and they can't encourage you well that is unless you could come to the kingdom hall to be ignored then that would be helping you!!
oh yeah.

I know what you mean elumn8, you can't let the elders have so much control over your life. I learned real quick to tell them my personal life was none of their business. If they don't have any proof of any wrongdoing and they can't get you to confess yourself, then they can't DF you. The key is to remember that they are just men and not men appointed by holy spirit and therefore have no right to pry into your personal life.

Stuck in a never-ending rut
by somebody inhave any of you been stuck in a rut when filling out a job application when it came to filling out that dreaded portion that requires you to:.
list at least 3 persons who are not related to you who have known you for 5 or more years.. .
it's that moment that you can't list all your "friends" in the borg, because they are not going to give you a true reference regarding what kind of person you are.

I have never had this problem with references, but I have had the problem of having no friends and feeling all alone. Sometimes, I even think that although there are people that I could become friends with, I just don't even have the social skills to do it. I'm working on this though because I think half of it is in my head. Thank goodness I have my husband to be my best friend and thank goodness we all have each other on this board!

Do You Consider Yourself An Honest Person?
by minimus inmany jw's can lie and feel that they are only using "theocratic stratergy".
some people are extremely above board and any thought of lying would not ever be considered.
some feel that they are very honest but would still cheat on taxes if they could get away with it.

One time my dad told me that I speak with a forked tongue. I was basically living a double life at the time, so I guess he was right that I did lie to him all the time. I still think that's a horrible thing to tell your daughter though.
I agree with whoever said that being a JW helped me learn to be a good liar. I constantly had to lie to get away with things that most kids would have never have to worry about. I'm still lying to my family everytime they ask me if I've "turned my back on Jehovah" and I say, "No, I'm just having doubts and I'll try to work it out." Okay maybe that's not a full out lie because I do still believe in God and therefore haven't turned my back on God, but I most definitely have turned my back on the WTBTS, and I know that as JW's that is what they are really referring to when they ask me if I've turned my back on Jehovah. Whatever...the truth would cause them to shun me, so what can I do?

I am 24. My husband and I have been married almost 2 years. I'm so glad there are people out there who understand me and who have been through this before.
Lost,
I know what you mean when you wonder if you left the cult for your husband or did you use your husband to leave the cult. I wonder the same thing about myself sometimes. I think it's probably a little of both.
You all have made me feel so much better. Thank you so much. I'm so thankful there's a place out there like this!

Thanks everyone for your encouragement and advice. Nowisee, I think you are probably right that this is mostly about what I am expected to do as his wife. I don't mind doing the laundry. I just want him to understand that I do it because I love him and I choose to do this kind of stuff because I know it helps him out, not because I'm his little slave and he orders me to.

I feel so alone tonight. I thought I'd get on here and find some support. My husband and I got into a fight last night. He was nagging me about the laundry. I told him, "Hey, you know where the washing machine is." He replied with, "Why don't you just go back to the cult." He later apologized for that hurtful comment, but I can't seem to get it out of my mind. We started dating back when I was still "active" and quite brainwashed. And I know that probably I am partly to blame for his attitude on me doing all the housework because I even told him once that I wanted to be submissive to him. Can you believe that??!!! I was so dumb back then and now I know better.
I guess it just hurts so much because I feel like he's the only person in the world who truly understands what I went through. He's the only one who saw me crying night after night at the thought of losing my family and then mourning my friends that abandoned me when I started dating him. He's actually the one who opened my eyes to the "truth." How could he ever even think such a horrible thing as me going back to the cult?
