WTBTS has given a simple explenation over what happend, but no it is imposibble for the enemies of the organization to accept that simple explenation. They have to come up with some big conspiracy theory to try to make the brothers look like bad guys.

WTBTS has given an explanation, and documentation from the UN has proven that explanation to be false. The UN says that being an NGO was not necessary for "library access" as the WT claims, and that policy predates the WTBTS' membership in the UN. I have personally written to the UN and verified that the documents posted which are attributed to the UN are genuine. Do you have an explanation for this then, or should I write the Society and ask myself?

Answer this honestly - what, if anything, would cause you to lose confidence in the WTBTS as being used by Jehovah? What would shatter YOUR confidence? If your answer is "nothing", then you are wasting your time at this site.

An elder said many years ago, "if the things you are saying are true, then that means I've wasted most of my life, and I am not willing to accept that possibility." So much for making sure of all things.

I'm loathe to agree with Francois, but he quotes the WT as saying:

Jehovah's witnesses are deeply grateful today that the plain facts show that God has been pleased to use them. ... It has been because Jehovah thrust out his hand of power and touched their lips and put his words in their mouths...

Combine that statement with the change in understanding about the generation (and the corresponding change in the masthead of Awake!) and that is what has shattered my confidence in "Jehovah's organization."

SwordofJah, how do you personally reconcile the two?

Does the bound volume or CDROM contain any indication that this was changed/edited/corrected?
Also, were there any changes in doctrine that would explain this change, or was it perhaps an actual typo?

This is the problem with people making generalized statements about others on this site - you don't know the person you are talking about.
I've read the quotes site, generally very good except for running off course in a few areas.

I am inactive BECAUSE of the changes and new light, specifically the generation change. It was the first time I directly had been affected by a shift in policy, leaving me to wonder how these people could be receiving divine direction.

I am not, as others have suggested, a reformer. However, if the Society announced tomorrow that several major doctrines were now a conscience matter, opened up their financial records, and offered a copy of the private files to their respective owners, I might consider coming back to meetings. Fat chance, right?

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience in therapy. I know of several people, all in good standing, who are in therapy today. Some opted for a JW therapist, others are seeing "worldly" people. I myself saw a therapist a few years ago (worldly). The thing you will not get with a JW therapist is an exploration of things you might want to do, but know are wrong. For example, my therapist discussed a few possible courses of action with me and then brought up one I left out. "Why not have an affair?" "Because I know it's wrong."

I think everyone is entitled to get the professional help they need, medical, mental or otherwise, and it's no one else's business, elders or not.

Try finding "Dear God" by XTC. Sort of the anthem for atheists :), and IMO a little more eloquent than the above.

I will add this to my list of questions. Rather than being DFd or DAd, I think the scenario that ThiChi outlined would be the most accurate.

Of course, I don't think any of the JWs will go out campaigning or appearing on exit polls, so unless the elders were there to witness the act, it wouldn't matter much.

i posted this on the "remodeling the kh" thread and did not get the desired feedback.. when everyone is done picking on me over in the cbs/silentlambs thread, maybe you can turn your attention to the following questions.. .

1) if the society still charges interest on the loans to the congregations, how does the society justify this, since it is clearly unscriptural?

surely there has been a "questions from our readers" about this?

JT, you misunderstand the spirit of my question. I am asking what's the current view, because if I take up the cause and come home with "SEE, THE WT SAYS THERAPY IS BAD" and it's not the current view, I will be immediately shot down. Besides, it's part of "making sure of all things" right?

I'm not sure what the point is your little comments about me and what you assume the attitude towards me in the congregation might be. Am I that much of a threat you need to discredit my persona, along with my questions?

You're right, the Bible is 1000s of years old and we don't question it, because it doesn't change. WT interpretation changes as we know, so if I'm going to sit here and criticize a WT position, I will do so with the current and most correct understanding as they define it.

So I'm welcome to come and "read read read" but not ask questions JT? Boy, you really were an elder. :)
