as i looked at these photos i could not help but to think of the $$$$$$ billions that they own around the world and they have not setup one retirement home for it's members.
outside of any members who are bethelites such as co, do, missionaries who have spent 40-60yr of service to the corp they have no where to go.
how sad.
Certainly building homes for the elderly would go against the idea of the "new system" saving us from this wicked old world. I knew someone who refused to recycle (even thought it was the law) saying that Jehovah will clean the earth up, so why bother?
The WT has money, no doubt. So if they believe in the new system, why store up riches here on earth?
i am at the end of my rope with my 2002 vw jetta gls.
i traded in my 1997 vw jetta (which had tons of problems....i'd just figured i'd gotten a bum car and decided to give the new jetta's a try).
1. air leak in drivers side window
Most of those are common problems, but at least two were recall items. Consumer Reports has documented similar concerns.
Japanese cars are for people who want to just get in and go. They are great for the first 70-80k miles, and then the expenses start.
German cars are much more finecky, for people who like to know how things work and who are willing to endure some gremlins for the sake of a more solid, longer lasting car. After 100k miles, you can't even compare the two.
Of course, there are exceptions to this generalization.
many of you know that my husband's work is fixing hail damage in cars, and that we have traveled for 10 years from colorado, texas, ok, kansas, etc.
but those mainly were his best contacts , and also all jw's in the business.. last summer one of our best contacts who lives in co, called to tell my husband that he had a hail storm hit that very day, and said that since he has d/a himself he will no longer work him.
i understand that some may not let their conscience do that being firm jw believers.
u are mistken. The reason u are mistaken is b/c JWS often get work , references etc just on the basis they are jws. The fact they are jws is supposed to make them better then worldy people. But u yourself said a good worker would be good regardless of his religion. I have had unfortune experiences with JWS and prefer to work with "worldly" people who know they cannot expect a 'free ride" based on their religious connection.
Based on my personal experience, I am not. Most of the people I know who do work for "worldly" clients are careful about the quality of their work, knowing that it reflects on their religion (since most of the time they are preaching to the homeowner, explaining why they have to leave early on Tues/Thurs, etc).
The free ride issue is a completely different topic. Yes, many people abuse the JW relationship to get a free ride. My poor cousin, who has a large pickup truck, is constantly being asked to help people move, taking up much of his precious time. Seldom if ever is he ever offered money for gas or his time.

Do other religions build nursing homes for "their" people? I've never needed to think about this, but I can't think of any homes that are specifically for persons of one religion or another. I've heard of Catholic schools, but not Catholic nursing homes.
ok, maybe not a real scandal, but this really bugs the hell out of me!
in short, the kingdom hall i went to as child and teen, is being sold to a church.
my mother (still active) informed me of this.
The Society also gave direction recently in a QFR about buying property from another religion. Basically, they view it as a 'business deal' and the only thing they frown on is "socializing" with the sellers. So you can do business with them, just don't be too friendly.
What's a QFR?
I think it's wrong for them to sell to "Babylon". Doesn't it allow the false worshipers to have a place to gather?
In a rural area somewhere near Watchtower and/or Patterson, there was an assembly hall smack in the middle of a large Hassidic community. The Witnesses were supposedly met with nasty looks and the occasional rock thrown at their car as they drove in, which was one of the reasons for selling it. They did in fact sell that hall to the Hasidim, and built a brand new one in another area (which I believe suffered a strange fire just before its completion).
i honestly want your answers to the following questions.
(i am trying to find out what jw's think on these things to determine what my parents may say in response if i ask them any of these)
question #1can individuals read & understand the bible alone, or do they need an organization and its publications to do so?

How fair would that be? You're going to prejudge every member of this religion and affect their income? On what grounds, that they think they are serving God?
All the anecdotal stories about personalities, swindles and shoddy work have nothing to do with religion.

One's religion has no bearing on the quality of his work. If anything, I think Witnesses tend to be especially conscious of the quality of their work, knowing that it reflects on Jehovah. Yes, I know plenty of JW hacks who call themselves contractors, but I also know of 50-60 hispanic immigrants taking jobs daily they are not qualified for.
Let's not prejudge everyone, OK? Or have all the Christian qualities gone out the door with the New World Translation? :)
i wanted to pass on a recent experience i had.
my mother passed away a few months ago.
the funeral was poised to be a sensitive issue since, when i left the truth 4 years ago, none of my children (all adults and still active in their faith) have spoken to me.
Sprocket, I'm sorry for your loss, on both levels.
Perhaps if you son knows why you left, and that it wasn't because of some action but because of your beliefs, he might be willing to listen. Offer him the chance to show you the light, to refute your beliefs, and perhaps he will take you up and come across some new light himself. Of course, fear may prevent him from doing this - a close friend once told me "I don't want to hear this, stop." when I tried sharing the issues I was personally concerned with.
i would like to apologize for coming off so hard on you.
i really fell into doing what i have often told others not to do and that is to dog a new person on the net- sometimes one gets carried away esp after one has done the level of research on the org that myself and many many many others have done.
so sometime when a person like yourself comes on the net and makes a comment about the org, that we know is not true - instead of helping you or anyone else to see where we got our info and and more importantly allowing a person to digest this info.
Thank you for your public apology JT. Thanks also for sharing some of your experience. I won't make any comment on the racial issues (which I guess I didn't know existed, but I could see that happening).
The professional help I sought had little to do with religion, though I think that was a small factor in the problems I was facing.
I applaud the efforts to uncover the dirt on the WTBTS so people can judge for themselves whether or not this is God's organization (for those who care to believe such a thing). My challenge to those of you who do this is to be 100% honest and accurate with the information you provide. In the mind of the JW, there is no room for innuendo, implications, or rationalizations. There is only black and white, good and evil, right and wrong. So, if you are trying to gain an audience there, it is important, as I said on the BB/Silentlambs/CBS thread, to be untouchable. Yes, a media bite about absolutist elders sounds good, but then the viewers flip back to Iraq or basketball. But to the JW, who is sitting there trying to find fault with the statements and unable to, the message conveyed in the broadcast will sink in, and will begin eating him up inside.
