Try finding "Dear God" by XTC. Sort of the anthem for atheists :), and IMO a little more eloquent than the above.

I will add this to my list of questions. Rather than being DFd or DAd, I think the scenario that ThiChi outlined would be the most accurate.
Of course, I don't think any of the JWs will go out campaigning or appearing on exit polls, so unless the elders were there to witness the act, it wouldn't matter much.

Show me the money (WT as Fannie Mae?)
by gcc2k ini posted this on the "remodeling the kh" thread and did not get the desired feedback.. when everyone is done picking on me over in the cbs/silentlambs thread, maybe you can turn your attention to the following questions.. .
1) if the society still charges interest on the loans to the congregations, how does the society justify this, since it is clearly unscriptural?
surely there has been a "questions from our readers" about this?

Perhaps I am off base here in my assumptions then. Surely if the scenario I constructed were true, someone here would have documentation or comments on it.

I'm puzzled as to why this thread is going nowhere.

gcc2k asked "WHAT IS THE CURRENT VIEW"
by JT inmade the following comments
1. the quotes showed are pretty old.
what proof is there that this is the current view?
-
gcc2k
JT, you misunderstand the spirit of my question. I am asking what's the current view, because if I take up the cause and come home with "SEE, THE WT SAYS THERAPY IS BAD" and it's not the current view, I will be immediately shot down. Besides, it's part of "making sure of all things" right?
I'm not sure what the point is your little comments about me and what you assume the attitude towards me in the congregation might be. Am I that much of a threat you need to discredit my persona, along with my questions?
You're right, the Bible is 1000s of years old and we don't question it, because it doesn't change. WT interpretation changes as we know, so if I'm going to sit here and criticize a WT position, I will do so with the current and most correct understanding as they define it.
So I'm welcome to come and "read read read" but not ask questions JT? Boy, you really were an elder. :)

"Jehovah's Witnesses Really Don't Love People, Do They?"
by minimus inthis was a comment that was made to me when i expressed that witnesses shun or disfellowship people and refuse to have any normal contact with them, or that they "mark" them and give a public speech about ones that even date a non-jehovah's witness.
after the statement was made, i stated that witnesses were more interested in numbers such as how many knocked on doors or went to a meeting......................it is a sad but true commentary.

The reason that most JWs support shunning is that they genuinely think the person is headed for certain death, and they view shunning as a necessary evil to save that person. Maybe a few get off on being able to hurt people they didn't like anyway, but that's not the norm.
At one of my few Memorial appearances, a nice older sister said "Oh, we'd love to see you back at meetings. I'm sure your daughter wants you there with her in the new system." I thought about slugging her, but instead just smiled and moved on.

Ah, but I do fault them for charging interest and I don't see how they can get away with it.
One of our former elders on here must have some documentation?

I posted this on the "Remodeling the KH" thread and did not get the desired feedback.
When everyone is done picking on me over in the CBS/Silentlambs thread, maybe you can turn your attention to the following questions.1) If the Society still charges interest on the loans to the congregations, how does the Society justify this, since it is clearly unscriptural? Surely there has been a "questions from our readers" about this?
2) Who holds the property deed to the Hall? Is it the Society, or the local congregation? I don't mean a lien - if the WT holds the mortgage, they have a lien on the property, of course. But my house is "mine" as long as I make the payments, with the deed in my name. Whose name is on the deed for most halls?
3) Francois - you claim that the Society was listed as a secondary insurer. If they are able to provide insurance, they must be registered as an insurance company. This doesn't show much "trust in Jehovah with all your might", hmm? If you can find proof that they are an insurance company, they must have an AM Best rating. I was unable to find any reference to the WT at ambest.com.
Tell me if the following scenario is true or not. Some of it is factual, some is speculative. - Circuit/Society decides that current assembly hall (built by volunteers) is too small/outdated/too dangerous. - Society sells old hall to Babylon the Great. - Volunteers spent countless hours working on new assembly hall. Congregations set aside special donations for the new hall. - Circuit takes out a loan/mortgage, presumably financed by the WTBTS, with interest. - Hall is ready. Circuit assemblies begin. - At each assembly, circuit is reminded of expenses for the assembly and encouraged to donate. - Society collects fees for the assembly, always greater than or equal to claimed expenses. If this scenario is true, I would love to see some reliable documentation on this. -
