I was actually a bit concerned about the 2012 thing... first time I had ever even considered an actual date for doom... but maybe that was because I was depressed at that time...

Were you afraid of Armageddon on New Year's Eve 1999?
by rebel8 inobligatory false predictions link.. so were you cowering somewhere with a stash of watchtowers hidden in your bunker on 12/31/1999?.
were you excited about armageddon coming and wiping all the wicked off the planet?.
were you arrogantly bragging how much better you and your fellow bros were than the worldlies, who were out celebrating blindly, like those in noah's day?.

Stats: Does Money affect the growth? Analyze please...
by ILoveTTATT ini made a graph of the new members from 2012 to 2013 in all countries that had positive growth, and graphed them against the country's gdp per capita.. .
the general trend is, as expected, less growth the more money there is in a country.
but there were some unexpected results.

Ok so the data came from the 2013 yearbook, and wikipedia for the GDP per capita.
I am having fun with Excel and all this data...
Some math:
(Average 2012 - Average 2011) = Change in averages
ΔAve/(Number of baptized) = Retaining Efficiency
(Number of hours preached)/(Number of baptized)/ΔAve = (Number of hours preached)/ΔAve = Number of hours to convert AND RETAIN a new convert.
This, divided by 2000 hours/work-year, would give the number of work-years to convert and retain another person as a JW.
The top 5 most inefficient?
In order,
Austria - 592 years per extra person
Puerto Rico - 211 years
Armenia - 189 years
Central African Republic - 155 years
Serbia - 85 years

Questions on Evolution and the Existence of God and...
by ILoveTTATT ini know this is one huge rant, but i want to put my own questions and doubts in writing.. i am a fading jw who has become agnostic... i still believe in "god" and "jesus," but i simply cannot explain to people why i believe in them.
i just do.. about the existence of god: it is an infinite regress.
"all things were created by someone"... well... who created god?

Does anyone know if probes have been sent to Mars to examine if there are microbes there? You would think that SOMEONE in the scientific community would have rallied for that inclusion...

Apognophos: I AM reading the thread... just absorbing everything...
I am sorry I didn't read the thread you posted...
Adam: Generally, I am impressed by your explanations... they make sense.
These questions just came up:
Ok so, Evolution holds in the entire universe? Is there life outside Earth? Even microscopic? There MUST be... did we send biological probes to Mars?
I couldn't find a straight answer on the age of the other planets in our Solar System, but, assuming they are the same age, shouldn't there be AT LEAST microbial life there? Is there a limit to the adaptations possible?
The high end for temperature is currently 122C for actual conditions, with 130C inhibiting ability to reproduce, and theoretical maximum of 150C because of DNA breakdown (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperthermophile), compared to the temperature of Venus, 462C, Mercury ranging from -173C to 427C.
Mars could be a candidate for life... even reaching "normal" temperatures of 35C.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extremophile shows that there ARE organisms on Earth that resist all sorts of things that would definitely kill humans and most large organisms... yet they survive!
Given this, there SHOULD be life out there... if the theory holds...
Does all life evolve the same way? I.E. we are carbon-based. Why wouldn't other elements be good for the basis of life's chemistry? In University, in one of the colloquium classes, one classmate gave a short speech on silicon-based life-forms.
Is there specific criteria for the development of intelligent life? How about organisms bigger than microbes?

Need help from JW History Buffs
by ILoveTTATT ini need help with writing an article regarding vaccinations, organ transplants, and blood transfusions.. i am doing my research using limited amounts of non-wt sources and mostly just the actual wt literature.. what i am having a hard time understanding is:.
most of the articles in the golden age, at least at the beginning of the anti-vaccination stance, are actually written by contributors.
since there are very pro-vaccination articles and then lots of anti-vaccination articles, how can i determine the actual wt viewpoint on vaccinations?.

Where the need is greater: TTATT in Spanish
by Londo111 init seems most of the us growth is in spanish-speaking territory, and of course, there is growth in the nations where spanish is the predominant language.
most sites oriented around ttatt, are english-speaking.
there seems then to be a great need for translators...for instance, imagine if there was a spanish version of www.jwfacts.com.. unfortunately, i dont speak this language.

I said:
websites, some being very poorly written
The info on forums is absolutely great, not gonna deny that... but is it accessible and easily searchable?
We need WEBSITES...

Hecce,
GREAT!
Great info, BUT... it is on a FORUM, not on a publicly accesible WEBSITE. I was in no way saying that the information is poorly written/researched. If we could get ALL that info into ONE site, THAT would be great!
THAT is what is missing from the exJW community.
