I've wondered for some time if they may try to bring their chronology in line with secular dates. If they are going to it will require many rewrites. The whole 1918/19 thing, the two witnesses/ Rutherford in jail, the 'trumpet blasts' of the twenties. It will require a massive overhaul. I just don't think that they could pull it off.

by Francois inand i remember the days when the jws warned about the catholics and their "index" of books, movies, and plays that were denied to catholics as being "dangerous" to their faith.
that is to say, they were revelatory of the actual truth of a matter and the roman church did not want these truths spreading throughout the faithful.
now the witnesses are up to it to.. have you read 1984?

I first read 1984 when I was 13 and I saw many of the similarities to the witnesses then. Unfortunately I didn't act on it until much later. I think that the similarities to the org. in the book just shows that they are as susceptable to the pitfalls of human nature as everyone else and all of the claims that they may make to being any different are just laughable. I just wish I could convince my family of that.

I know one ex-pioneer and MS who was almost the most unethical businessman I have come across. He and his partner used the witness network to hire brothers all across the country in their cleaning business. When the workers were mistreated, shortchanged etc. They would have a meeting with them and secretly record the proceedings. They would rile their employees up until they used bad language, which they would use as leverage against these ones, and as they were often in positions of responsibility, they would not press their issues. He was also a wife beater and frequenter of prostitutes and too this day is not d/fed. It is funny that if he and I are at any witness functions together which is very rare, people will speak to him but not to me. I am not d/fed either but I make no secret of my allegiances.

Do You Think Disfellowshipping Is Unscriptural?

I think that Paul was writing to the Roman congregation, not the body of elders which shows it is a personal decision. Plus I think it is a personal decision in the way that witnesses are told to consider their forms of entertainment. After all the first century congregation we told that the only laws that applied to them was eating blood, fornication and eating things sacrificed to idols.
Plus even if disfellowshipping is scriptural, judicial committees certainly have no basis in scripture.

What always drove me crazy about that song is that it went on and on. (I timed it once it was over 1 minute per verse) and I think in the purple songbook it was the longest, so it always seemed to be reserved for the last song on a Sunday at the assemblies - just to keep us there that little bit longer.

should i get one even though i have plenty of canadian id???

Other than the general ill feeling I believe that for Canadian citizens nothing has changed. However for those of us that have not got around to getting citizenship and are still landed immigrants things changed as of March 21st. Now you will need a visitors visa, unless you are from the U.K., Australia, New Zealand and a couple of other British protectorates that I can't remember. Being from the U.K. though will still mean that you get hauled into the office and have to fill out a card, as I found out.

Hello!!

My specialist is in English lit, and I am doing a minor in Psychology. Incidentally I came across an interesting section under Social Psychology which could have been written about the witnesses. I don't have my text book with me right now but I will post it later.
