Did any of you ever see The Waterboy with Adam Sadler and Kathy Bates? I know it's an old movie, but I was watching it with my kids and I had to laugh aloud. Kathy Bates plays the cajun Mom of the mentally borderline Bobby Boucher, and I just KNOW she was a Witness!!! How? She claims everything is THE DEBIL! I've heard the same things she said from all my husband's Witness family. She said foosball (football) is THE DEBIL. Television is THE DEBIL. Dick Clark is THE DEBIL! College - you guessed it, THE DEBIL! Pretty much everything is THE DEBIL. I'll bet she doesn't believe in the internet, either!!!

When this question comes up, my husband usually says that the published information is very strong so as to "encourage the brothers to keep doing what they are doing" and doesn't necessarily mean that the Organization feels only baptized Witnesses will survive the Big A. I think he's just telling me what he thinks I want to hear . . .

Is it me or are the Watchtower Publications disappearing ??????
by run dont walk ini was at the hospital the other day in the waiting room for about 2 hours with a friend, and i noticed only one awake magazine from 2000 in the pile of reading material.. i always thought that the watchtower was trying to "preach the good news to all the inhabited earth before the end comes".
well , they don't like the internet, which is the # 1 way to inform people, you cannot get a subscription anymore unless someone at the hall does it for you or you are still attending, probaly why i didn't see any at the hospital, or lawyers office, or doctor's office etc etc etc.. it seems to me that they are trying to limit what info gets out to the outside world, is this not contradicting all they have preached the last 50 years.. no subscriptions for anyone who might want one ?????????.
no new books, for anyone who is not a jw.. what do you think ????????.

WTS Addresses Child Abuse - er, kind of...
by iiz2cool inmy wife, who is intent on re-activating herself as a dub since i da'd myself, went to the convention this past weekend.
she showed me this new publication entitled "learn from the great teacher", and placed great emphasis on these two pages i scanned and am posting.
it makes a poor show of telling children what to do when confronted by a child abuser.

Argh! What to do, what to do...
by safe4kids inmy children have a friend who lives in the neighborhood and who comes over often to hang out.
he is a little jw boy, but he and his mom have no idea that i'm an ex.
"gabe" has been a frequent visitor to our home for over a year now and nothing about religion has ever come up...until today.. he and my son got into a discussion about evolution vs. creation, and, as the conversation seemed to be heating up, i got involved.

I had the same situation when my 16-yr-old JW step-daughter was living with us. One day, I caught her trying to explain her version of things to my 13-year-old daughter (who has grown up in the Methodist church.) I told the girls that there would be no debates or discussions over their religious beliefs, no exchanging of literature, etc. - as a matter of respect for each other and the beliefs they held.
Privately, though, I told my husband that he should talk to his daughter and I had better not ever hear of her trying to pass that crap off to my little girl again. As far as I know, that was the last time they ever talked about it.

I'm with you, happyout. Why is the trinity issue such a big deal to everyone, anyway? I know the Witnesses say you have to pray to Jehovah in the name of Jesus, etc., but do you really think God is that petty? If they're the same, fine. If not, fine. In the grand scheme of things, I just don't think it makes much difference.

Which way will the Society go because of the Internet?
by be wise ini've only learned the truth about this society over the last 5 months or so, so i'm not sure what the difference is to say - 2 years ago.
do you think the society will now get even more cultish in it's methods of teaching and more heavy handed if they feel things are slipping?
i don't feel i'm being over the top here because i've experienced very heavy handed talks at the assemblies and kingdom hall in the past that are just plain scare tactics but this just makes people ask more questions ??
